Current Robert Kubica

He's fast, Polish and a bloody brilliant racer. To me Kubica is a special talent and has been very unlucky to not find himself in a top team yet.

The thing i like about Kubica is that he's a trier and never gives in say if he was third and had a sniff of second he'd go and chase the second place man down. He's a much toned down version of Lewis Hamilton IMHO he's great at overtaking (Austrailla 2009) exception and if he was in a better car i think he'd a won more races than the current 1 he stands at.

Kubica made his F1 debut at the Hungrian GP in 2006 replacing the injuried Jacque Villeneuve for BMW Sauber. He'd outqualified teammate Nick Heidfeld at the time and finished the race in 7th place only to be DSQ for been under weight. Since Kubica's first and only Pole Position came at the 2008 Bahrain GP, that same season he'd broke his winning duck and won his current and only race in Canada. Kubica has stood on the podium 12 times and in his 76 race he's scored a total of 273 points.

Sad news broke eariler in the year (2011) that Kubica had been involved in a Rally competition and crashed, his life was said to be in the balance, but he's slowly recovering from nasty injuries he substaned in the accident. It remains to be seen whether Kubica will return to motor-racing. But for me Kubica is a talented driver and if we do see him back on the grid i'd be over the moon.

Whether you like him or not Kubica is a cool guy and one that i'd like to see become Champion if he return's to the sport.

How do you rate Kubica?

The guy can't grip properly and can't even twist his arm/elbow yet. He will never be competitive in F1 again. All in my opinion, of course.

According to the FIA sporting regulations a team must submit it's application to compete during the period 30 June to 15 July inclusive the previous year.

"Applications shall include:

a) Confirmation that the applicant has read and understood the Regulations and agrees, on its own
behalf and on behalf of everyone associated with its participation in the Championship, to observe
them.
b) The name of the team (which must include the name of the chassis).
c) The make of the competing car.
d) The make of the engine.
e) The names of the drivers. A driver may be nominated subsequent to the application upon payment of
a fee fixed by the FIA.
f) An undertaking by the applicant to participate in every Event with the number of cars and drivers
entered."

It's days like today that make you realize just how lucky Kubica was to get away with the injuries he did, it could have been much worse.

I really hope that Kubica doesn't rush back to F1 and gets himself fully fit before stepping back into a car.

What that tells me is Kubica failed to show that he was fit enough at the latest test, so they're going to give him another one later in the year, in the hope that he has improved.

True, he does seem to be in not in good shape, but then after all his recovery has been quite fast. I think he would be fit before February, but if so he would probably have to wait another year for a driver, maybe not get one at all, such a shame, I was really warming to the guy since he has been impressive to say the least.

There appears to be a lot of straws being clutched over at Renault.

Not surprised, I doubt any of the drivers they have right now can deliver, apart from Petrov, maybe Grosjean but he is effectively still a rookie, not convinced by Senna. Plus the team is still in quite a bad shape

This doesn't sound very promising.I am suprised that Renault have so little information about him.

Renault remains in the dark about whether or not Robert Kubica will make a Formula 1 comeback next year - as it says it is still awaiting news on when the Polish driver will be able to drive a racing car again.
"Nobody has a medical report and nobody has seen him driving a car and being at speed. Until we see him and have the confirmation then, we can not say anything. And we need to keep, unfortunately, the option of not having him back.
"I am in regular contact with his manager, but until he is driving the car we do not know."

It seems, by that appraisal, that it is unlikely that Kubica will start 2012 in a race seat. He may, of course, get some practice sessions or even GP2 races.

Not looking good at all. This is dated 4th November

http://formula-one.speedtv.com/article/f1-robert-kubica-set-for-new-wrist-operation/ The likelihood of an early 2012 return to the Lotus (currently Renault) team for Robert Kubica appears to have receded even further.

The Italian daily La Gazzetta dello Sport reported on Thursday that the Polish driver, who has already undergone five operations since his February rally crash, is scheduled to have more surgery in the coming days.

The next operation will be on his right wrist and will surely intensify speculation that team boss Eric Boullier has already decided to pair Vitaly Petrov with the new GP2 champion Romain Grosjean next season.

As much as I like Robert (indeed, I expected (hoped) that he might become the WDC this year), I am tempted to say that I don't think he should return, or, indeed, race any more. He has had two very narrow escapes from death in racing, one in F1 one in rallying, and they say things come in threes.
