My choice...
1. Hamilton. Would have sewn up championship races ago without multiple technical issues, even with the inconsistant clutch ( which Mercedes managed to dowry out for the last few races.

2. Verstappen. A true racer in Hamilton's mode. Super fast, good in the wet and psychologically bullet proof. An undoubted future champion.

3. Ricciardo. Fast, good on brakes. Good overtakes and defender. Kept Verstappen honest.

4. Rosberg. Fast one lap speed. Did what he had to do when Hamilton had problems. Champion. Let down by poor head to head ability against other drivers and poor in the wet.

5. Fernando Alonso. Blew Button away. Put The McLaren where it often shouldn't have been.

6. Raikonnen. Got his mojo back. Made Vettel look poor.

7. Perez. Love this little guy. Keeps popping it up there.

8. Sainz. I've underestimated this guy in the past. I'm a fan now.

9. Vettel. I feel obliged to put him in but I think he's been very poor this season.

10. Ocon. For that wet drive. And for coming in halfway through and going so well against Wehrlein.

ROFL

Okay.

The only clutch problems right now are running out of straws.
ROFL Great one! Hilarious! Thing is inconsistent clutch ( ing at straws) or not . He'd have sewn the championship up races ago without the engine problems. But as you were, as you were.

Third. LOL
Bellow Rosberg :snigger:

9. Vettel. I feel obliged to put him in but I think he's been very poor this season.

Im felt the same as i felt i had to because he came 4th. But has been poor compared to his high standards

Also when everyone that wants to, ill update our CTA driver of the yr standings

1) Ricciardo

The best driver out there and most consistent and withstood the hype around Verstappen and his team screwing him up twice

He needs a car capable of challenging for the championship otherwise his career would be a a disappointment

2) Hamilton

The fastest driver no doubt when there were days he was untouchable but a few scrappy races and an engine failure cost him a 4th title. Odds on favourite to be 2017 champ

3) Verstappen

Supposedly you can't overtake in F1 but this guy seems to pull off the impossible at times with his no fear attitude

4) Perez

A much improved driver this season than his 2012 season at Sauber and once again beat the once highly rated Hulkenberg and secured two podiums which contributed to Force India finishing above Williams

5) Alonso

Still has the qualities of the best driver on the grid . When the power deficit was not as great he was able to race with the midfield runners

6) Rosberg

Did what was required to be world champion with the consistency and more harder edge this season which proved crucial in securing the title

7) Raikkonen

Finding the Ferrari more to his liking he proved to be a closer match to Vettel than many expected. Was on his way out but after the announcement seemed to have found a new lease life and performed better than his results suggests compared to Vettel

8) Sainz

It is almost forgotten that he started the season as Verstappen's teammate at Toro Rosso and both eyeing a promotion to Red Bull. Once again he has come off second best to Verstappen and his results dipped due to a lack of development with the year old Ferrari engine . However some stirling drives in Spain, Brazil and Austin proved why he is still highly regarded by the big teams. Next season he must show the same form as this year and no doubt in 2018 will be expected to be in a top car whether its with Red Bull or not

9) Hullkenberg

The man still has no podium after more than 100 races in F1 which is unbelievable to imagine.. His qualifying form did not always transcend to the results on Sunday. Clearly faster than his teammate but was once again beaten in the final standings.
A potential career lifeline opportunity with Renault could propel him to a frontrunner

10) Vettel

Makes the list with 7 podiums and some notable drives from the back but fail to deliver when it mattered in qualifying.and challenge Mercedes consistently

How things might have been had he won in Melbourne his season became more disjointed with various incidents on lap 1, berating over the radio to his team and his attack on Charlie Whiting was the signs of a man not at ease at Ferrari. He seems to be scared of going wheel to wheel racing hard and the meerest touch seems to rile him

Next year could be make or break for his career and his legacy which has taken a battering this season even his old team Red Bull can see he has fallen and stuck the boot into him

A special mention to

Vandoorne - 1 race and a point shows why he is so highly regarded

Ocon - Showed why Force India hired him over Wehrlein and why Mercedes want to keep him and Renault tried their best to sign him. The race in Brazil is potentially a sign of great things for him

  1. Ricciardo - Best his team-mate by a margin in the end. Brilliant in Monaco. In a theoretically tight battle for third, peerless.
  2. Rosberg - Consistent is a slight insult because he was at times untouchably fast. No bad Saturdays and clearly optimised reliability.
  3. Hamilton - The quickest. Won 10 races and unbelievable in the wet. If he got to Turn One first, race over.
  4. Perez - Took his opportunities, combative and quick. Perfect mid-level team driver.
  5. Verstappen - When he stops crashing and getting penalties, and gets the fastest car, he'll be unstoppable. Hints of an incredible talent.
  6. Alonso - Impossible, as usual, to imagine many doing a better job with the shitebox that he had.
  7. Grosjean - Got the points that were available to him, and lead his team to mid-table.
  8. Vettel - In between the fights, swearing, tactical errors, he's still bloody quick.
  9. Bottas - Finally nailed the lid on Massa's coffin.
  10. Raikkonen - Unnailed his own coffin.

F1Brits_90 racecub Vettel this year is very deceptive because I agree that at first glance he looks to have had a poor year however if you look at the overtaking stats you'll see he was actually overtaken less than even the two Merc drivers. I think this points to the fact he's just had a very poor year of qualifying. If you look back he's had some great drives to save results from nothing. I think we've seen him grab races by the scruff of the neck more often this season that in any other year.

Where that puts him in the drivers ratings I Don't know but prob worth noting. x

It's equally worth noting that one of the reasons he's been overtaken fewer times might have something to do with the fact there's been quite a few races that he either started from somewhere near the back... or not at all, through a combination of mechanical gremlins or first-corner collisions.

Mark Hughes in Motorsport magazine:

1) Daniel Ricciardo
2) Lewis Hamilton
3) Fernando Alonso
4) Nico Rosberg
5) Sebastian Vettel
6) Max Verstappen
7) Kimi Raikkonen
8) Romain Grosjean
9) Carlos Sainz
10) Valtteri Bottas.

Intetesting order of Seb and Max.

We all 1 person whose done very well Riccardio. Topped mark hughes top 10 & topped our top 10 poll 8 times from 11 only Verstappen, Rosberg & Hamilton got top spot

I guess you can't get away from subjective voting. It's who you like. Who you personally think has done the best job and why.
I can't think how anyone could put Vettel and Rosberg above Verstappen. But there you are, Hughes has done it.

One of the most interesting things I have noticed in many subjective ranking lists this season is how Verstappen and Raikkonen are being rated, both by fans and by pundits. Verstappen and Raikkonen are frequently being rated ahead of their team mates, despite the fact that both were actually outperformed by their team mates this season. Vettel's 12-5 race record against Raikkonen this year is the third most one-sided teammate pairing on the grid!
This doesn't apply to every list of course, but it does serve as a great example of just how subjective these subjective lists can actually be.

I wonder whether its expectations, some people have put 1 or both of kimi & max above teammate because they surpassed expections whereas vettel has dropped below expectations

I was going to post about this, but thought it might come across as sour grapes as I'm a big Vettel fan! And also because, of course they're very subjective. The thread is 'Your top 10 drivers..' not 'The top 10 drivers...' – as they are already decided by points, irrefutably and forever.

Anyway, grateful Spinodontosaurus that I can piggy-back your comment without bringing it up at all. (And Verstappen would have BATTERED Ricciardo if he'd been driving a Red Bull all season.) :)
