Chevrolet and SEAT dominated qualifying ahead of tomorrow's 11th and 12th rounds of the FIA World Touring Car Championship.
Series veteran Nicola Larini took pole position for Chevy, his first pole in the series for five years (at the same circuit!). SEAT's Rickard Rydell will be alongside the Italian on the front row of the grid.
Chevrolet's Alain Menu was stripped of his third position when a technical check showed his onboard fire extinguisher to be empty. Menu will be allowed to start the race from the back of the grid. As a result Jordi Gene's SEAT is promoted to third position, with Rob Huff's Chevrolet fourth.
Reigning triple champion Andy Priaulx was quickest of the BMWs in fifth, but will be concerned about the margin of some 0.4s from pole. His young Brazilian team mate Augusto Farfus starts alongside the Guernseyman on row three. There's a fascinating battle in prospect on row four between title chasers Yvan Muller and Gabriele Tarquini, both in the diesel-powered SEATs. Tarquini however is likely to find the race a struggle, with top success ballast of 70kg on board he's likely to be happy with a seventh- or eighth-place finish, which would put him on the front row for the reverse-grid second race.
