Is motocross the bikes on dirt only?

Whats the one called that is bikes on half tarmac, half dirt? I watched that a few times and it was great fun. No idea where I saw it now.

I like Top Gear. It's not about serious TV, but three blokes, being.. blokes. It's harmless, lighthearted and totally stupid.
