The 2012 Season

Jenson after all would be on at least 63 points and leading the championship
You could say that of any number of drivers: Hamilton if not for a safety car and several delayed and dodgy pit stops, Vettel if he hadn't hit Karthikeyan, Webber if he was good enough...

Brogan........True but I chose Button simply because even 10 points on Sunday, had his car not let him down would have still left him leading the championship and due to his ability to normally stay error free I see him as deserving. I think everyone would agree that his error in Malaysia was very un Jenson like. :)

I'm not trying to justify anything Brogan. If you read my original post again you'll realize my comment on Button was following my previous statement where I said I believed McLaren were still the team to beat. Pointing out Buttons position in the title chase and the points he's achieved in just two finishes, and where he would have been placed had he achieved just two 5th places as opposed to two DNF's, was done to simply reinforce McLaren as the strongest contenders so far. I thought what I was alluding to was obvious. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

Bahrain was a very good race for Caterham too, Petrov was battling with the Toro Rossos throughout. If they can maintain that, maybe a move up the championship won't be out of the question.

I believe after 4 races their are still 8 drivers with the potential to win the World Championship - although I'm pretty sure by the time we get to Britian that'll be at least down to 4 and you're right Kewee in that it really is exciting and I hope the races match up but whoever wins the championship will be just as deserving as the one's that won in the last 61 years. You can only beat the competition put out in front of you.

As for Barcelona - I'm expecting our first dull race as its always tested on and I can foresee a Lewis Hamilton victory but lest not forget how quick those Lotus looked there in testing - especially Grosjean - so don't think Mclaren and Red Bull will have it all their own way. I'm predicting worst race of the season for Ferrari I'm afraid even with the upgrade package. Every team is so dialed into that track from testing that getting any upgrades to work and give them any boost compared to testing. I'm sure Alonso will get himself in the top ten though.

I think McLarens problem in bahrain beyond appauling pitstops and whatever was wrong with Buttons car (what was it btw?)

was that they set the car up for too low downforce levels before they even arrived. I think If they set the rear wing too low before arriving they get stuck with that the whole weekend and have to make do. Hence them being something like 1st and 3rd in the speedtraps. And given everyone with the correct downforce levels were struggling with tyres they were on a loser from the beggining.

3rd or 4th might have been possible for Hamilton, probably 4th.

I think Red-Bull are back for good now though, they have sealed the diffuser again and got the back stuck into the ground like previous years and it showed by Vettel beating Webber, I think this is where the excitement ends this year.

So many doomsayers just because we saw a Red Bull win! Vettel dominated last season but it didn't mean we didn't get exciting racing did it? Anyone remember Monaco? First F1 race in years that had me so excited I had to watch it standing up because i kept jumping out of my chair so much.

downforce.........That doesn't explain why McLaren lost a second between practice, qualifying and the race. They're still working on it evidently in the hope the same problem won't rear up at them.
Red Bull are not as optimistic as you. They don't believe they will dominate and have said they expect a seesaw struggle all year.
The excitement is only just starting though. Ferrari are about to join in the fun. Bloody hell, I don't know whether to use my roll eyes smiley or.......no this little guy will do the trick. LOL

Good on them, I say! Let us also not forget that it was Kovaleinen who bumped Schumacher out of qualifying. The Caterhams' pace could mean everyone having to use the option tyres in Q1 which really would put the cat among the pigeons. They looked like delivering that speed in pre-season testing, especially in Barcelona - I hope they can, just to reward the serious effort they have made to compete.

McLaren also had a problem with degradation on their rear tyres - exactly as they had on Friday afternoon, when the wind was in the same direction as it was in the race, a tailwind through the fast Turns Five, Six and Seven.
Their car looks a bit more wind-critical than others, something I've experienced with some of my own cars in the past.

Looks like the majority of the teams this year will be conducting their young drivers test at Silverstone the week after the British Grand Prix.

Red Bull and Toro Rosso though look set to differ and test at the end of the year at Abu Dhabi

I think the majority of teams have chose Silverstone for cost reasons and to get a cheeky extra test in mid-season. I'm guessing Red Bull and Toro Rosso are waiting because for them the young drivers test is more about who's going where because if Webber is out at the end of the year they'll either be testing for a new Red Bull driver or at least a new Toro Rosso driver so tey probably want to wait and see how their sponsored drivers do in their various series.

So those of us who can't afford a ticket for the British Grand Prix may be able to get a cheap ticket to watch the likes of Parfeet, Bianchi, Bird, Gutteriez, Bottas, Razia, Rossi and Clos lapping round on experimental rubber!
