Schuey Pulls Out

Oh dear, that's a pity. I was looking forward to that. Perhaps now Marc Gene will get the drive and surprise us all with his performance. I hope so.

As for Renault, I wonder how the FIA/Max are going to play it. Suppose they turned down the appeal - Renault would be infuriated, and might even say that they were going to leave F1 - indeed, if this has been their plan all along it gives them a good excuse to cover up their real reasons.

If, for whatever reason, the FIA wanted to undermine the power of the manufacturers, this could be one way of doing it?

There must be some head scratching going on in Paris GM.

The trouble is that the initial issue of the car being allowed on to the circuit in an unsafe condition will get lost in the weeds and this will brew up into a political battle.

At least there are 7 teams waiting in the wings this time.

As for Ferrari. I would love to see the job go to Luca. If he could only bring the car home in 8th he could loose his tag as the man with the most starts never to score a point. I wonder which way Marinello will go. Could it be Gene or Badoer or will there yet be another name from out of nowhere. Bourdais or Piquet perhaps??

That's a shame, I was looking foward to seeing Schumie up against Hamilton, Vettel etc. I suppose from Valencia's point of view ticket sales have increased based on the Schumie hype, I wonder how many will actually turn up now?

It will be interesting to see how Badoer gets on, his record in F1 hasn't exactly been stunning. It's would have been more exciting if Ferrari had given one of the youngs stars from GP2 or F3 a run out.

Well! A bit surprised at that I must say. Still, a romantic choice.

Whatever next? Pedro Lamy to take Piquet's seat at Renault??

Luca has been absent from the grid for 167 races, which is five more than the current record
set by Jan Lammers. Lammers will still have the record for longest time between starts with
10 years and 92 days.

Didn't see this one coming - Now it looks like we have a Spanish GP with no Alonso, no Schui return, BMW just going through the motions and the race set in Valencia......

I hope they find some way to pass this year otherwise I have a really nice part of my lawn where the grass is growing very quickly, I'm starting to believe it could do with some more attention.

Top stats Brian

For those who remember, this was the race where it nearly went so well for Luca only to end in tears (for real)

The sight of a heart broken Luca bent down beside his broken Minardi crying his eyes out was something you don't see every day in F1. He was holding 4th place with 13 laps to go when his gear box gave up. To make matters worse his team mate (Marc Gene) was in 7th at the time and managed to hold on to 6th and take the last point.

There are some guys who never had the luck in F1 and Luca is one of those.

Brian, One name I've noticed isn't on your list is Bruno Giacomelli. He finished with Alfa (I think) in 1983 and returned in a shock comeback with Life in 1990 which would put him quite high up on the list. That is of course, unless your list only shows those who started GP becuase Bruno never got past the Did Not Pre Qualify bit in 12 attempts with Life in 1990. LOL

it is likely that Badoer has driven more kilometres in a Ferrari F1 car than any other Italian in history.

According to FORIX Luca has done 31,374 laps covering 131,943 km since 1999. Some of those
were for Minardi though.

1 Luca Badoer 131,943
2 Alexander Wurz 107,052
3 Nick Heidfeld 104,350
4 David Coulthard 104,303
5 Jarno Trulli 103,810
6 Jenson Button 102,802
7 Pedro de la Rosa 101,663
8 Rubens Barrichello 101,429
9 Michael Schumacher 100,630
10 Marc Gené 100,372

Testing figures tend to be incomplete and unofficial.

Bums :( I was looking forward to that only so I could go and see my old man who used to mutter "a**ehole" under his breath every time Shumi came on the screen LOL

Forza Luca!

What a shame.
I was so looking forward to seeing MS in action again and I was never one of his biggest fans.

Pleased for Luca though although Marc Gene must be wondering what he has to do to get a drive :D

As others have said, this will no doubt have an influence on the Renault appeal.
The stands are going to be quite empty in Valencia now I would have thought.

Looks like I've got a lot of updating to do now...

Yes I omitted any DNQs from the list. I DID include Mike Thackwell, who 'technically'
didn't start his first race.

I expect Marc will get a chance at Spa.

disappointed... now we get another boring race in valencia. and then badoer. nothing against luca but it seems not the best choice.

too bad, i was looking forward to valencia and schumi versus the rest :)

http://www.f1rejects.com/drivers/badoer/biography.html

I'd love to see him get just one point! That would pass his "most races without a point" record on to someone else! He's been driving bottom feeders in F1 (Scuderia Italia, Minardi, Forti) in the past, but it was an absolute heartbreaker for him not to take his deserved 4th position at the Nurburgring in 1999.

Come on, lets see Points for Luca! (His neck all right?)
