Hispania (Campos) may miss all pre-season testing

Re: Campos may miss all pre-season testing

Yeah, I read that FB. He wants to make it part of A1GP as well, which is no ringing endorsement given the problems A1GP has (sadly) had.

Re: Campos may miss all pre-season testing

Wait a moment though. Wasn't the FIA supposed to conduct a "no stone unturned" investigation into each applicant for a spot on this seasons grid and had to satisfy themselves that any bidding team would have all the funding in place to make it throught the season ??

How could something like this have happenend ??

Mind you, Bernie has been saying for months that he didn't think at least one team would make it onto the grid.

The funny thing is that they must have known how much money they would need to pay Dallara from the outset so it's not like they didn't have a clue how much it would cost. So basically they seem to have entered F1 on a wing and a prayer with the promise of cash to come but not cash in the bank. All that brings me back to point 1.

Some pictures of the Dallara car, although they are probably CAD renderings.

Re: Campos may miss all pre-season testing

So much for the new teams being vetted to ensure they had the finances and resources to compete

It's quite clear that of all the teams that applied, the successful ones were only chosen because they bowed to the FIA's unwritten rule that they must use Cosworth engines.

Re: Campos may miss all pre-season testing

Now Bernie is suggesting that Campos and US F1 may ask to miss the first 3 races of the season.

http://en.espnf1.com/f1/motorsport/story/8320.html

Obviously this is more like Bernie suggesting that the two teams in question "Can" ask to miss the first 3 races of the season not that they have or will ask.

Once again F1 makes a farce out of a buisness though. Isn't it time that both Campos and USF1 were made to confirm that they will be at the first race of the season or have their licences removed. Stefan F1 seem almost ready to jump into the sport now so at least we have one ready made replacement.

Re: Campos may miss all pre-season testing

If teams are allowed to miss up to 3 races, can you see somebody doing a Ferrari and running away with the championship and then asking to miss the last 3 races of the season while they work on their next car? (Saving accomodation and flight costs for the race team to boot!)

Not if they have sponsors.

Re: Campos may miss all pre-season testing

Failure to attend a GP will be punishable by banning from the next GP, which if you fail to attend will be punishable by a further ban...

What they should have done was accept teams that were credible and not just prepared to use Cosworth engines! :givemestrength:

Re: Campos may miss all pre-season testing

I'm amazed that the Concorde Agreement seems to permit something that the FIA Sporting Regs don't. Right hand, meet left.

Re: Campos may miss all pre-season testing

An important question that needs to be asked is "without any pre-season testing is it safe to let Campos and USF1 race?"

The reason I ask this question is because of what happenend to the Virgin car at the first test. After just 8 laps there was a structural issue with the front wing. Testing is the ideal time (if there can be such a thing) for this to happen since the testing enviroment is a lot more controlled. Imagine if that failure had occured at the end of the highest speed part of the circuit in Bahrain towards the end of Qaulification or in the early stages of a race when the cars are still relatively close together.

What Virgins problems show is that you can have all the experts in the world and all the computer data to back that up by while there is room for failure then Murphy's law (Which states that if anything can go wrong it will) will always apply.

All four new teams have built their cars from scratch. Campos may have had the luxery of their car being built by Dallara but even so its performance is still unknown until it hits the track. If you were a driver would you trust the machinery you were in unless you had at least tested first? It's a bit like asking a test pilot to jump in an experimental jet and take it for a flight as soon as the thing rolls off the assembly line.

I'm not sure what the solution should be if Campos and US F1 make it to Bahrain without any pre-season testing but is it a risk worth taking or do we think the chances of anything going seriously wrong are so slim that it's not worth the worry?

Re: Campos may miss all pre-season testing

Lots of gossip and rumours abounding - Bernie and Jose Maria Carabante (the President of Campos Meta) to buy Campos with a view to flogging it on the VW for 2011.

Campos VW

Re: Campos may miss all pre-season testing

Why is Bernie so desperate to see Campos on the grid? I thought he was going mad over the Stefan F1 team, which kind of suggests that he has something against US F1, or he would have been happy to see Campos replaced.
