Bernie Ecclestone

Bernie Ecclestone attempted to qualify for a single World Championship event. He was in a Connaught-Alta, one of a fleet of three entered by himself. He finished qualifying 265.2 seconds off the pace, and his two team-mates failed to qualify as well.

He is, however, the most important single person in Grand Prix history. He took charge of Motor Racing Developments in 1972, from Ron Tauranac. He was the team principal for Nelson Piquet's two drivers' titles, but he'd lost interest by the time Brabham missed the deadline to enter the 1988 World Championship.

Into the governance of the sport he went, and he modernised it, and quickly controlled Formula One. He is now the leader of a billion-dollar industry. He is a divisive figure, but he's not done badly for someone who was four minutes off the pace on a Saturday in Monaco.

How about re-investing the billions generated by F1 back into the sport instead of the black hole that is CVC. Sod crowd funding. I'm bitter enough about having to pay Murdoch's sport ransom to watch F1.

We all know the mop haired microtwat (copyright sniff petrol) would never do that, that's why CVC like him. As for giving money to Murdoch, my conscience won't let me knowingly do that so I use good old aunty beeb and just impose a news blackout on race day when it's a highlights race.

Well just don't turn on two minutes too soon. I watched a News bulletin recently and their final was the result of the GP, which they were just about to screen on the highlights programme. They didn't even have the grace to say " look away now". Fortunately I'd seen it, I can only imagine how I would have felt if I'd just switched on.

1) Buy a dish.
2) Point it at 19.2E Astra1f-1l.
3) Buy a set top box, I have an ICECRYPT S2000CCI.
4) Find RTL Osterich (mine is Channel 222).
5) Turn on computer, call up your favourite browser and get the BBC Sport F1 page, go to the Live page and select the 5 Live commentary, also pull uup the F1.com Live Timing page.
6) Sit back and watch it Murdoch free.

All perfectly legal.

* When I say shambles I do not mean The Shambles in York which is a centuries old street totally irrelevant to modern life

I bought some very nice fudge there recently. I would also suggest that it is more relevant to modern life than the subject of this thread.

Having said that, some triceratops claim that particular distinction.

BE - riding in to save the world.

Mercedes-Ferrari rule stranglehold could destroy F1 - Ecclestone

"We're trying to save the sport and these people are trying to save it for their own good," Ecclestone said.

He says when Mercedes F1 boss Toto Wolff "puts his hand up and says Christmas is going to be 26 December, everybody agrees - same with Ferrari".

That's my plans buggered then - and:

"We are there to entertain the public. We are not there to put on a show for Mercedes to demonstrate and sell their cars. Or Ferrari."

Has he walked to Damascus recently?

Oh you've got to love him. All this from the man who created the situation of the major players holding all the power. By cutting out all bar one lower order team from the decision making process. What you reap you sew Bernie.

It only works for him if every one plays along.

Those evil manufacturers, ploughing get billions into F1 and Bernie's pocket year after year, and supplying lesser teams. How dare one or two get so good?
So should Mercedes and Ferrari deliberately makes their cars worse?
