Pre-Season BARCELONA TEST 18th-21st Feb 2011

Jenson Button completed just 54 laps.

That's mental!

They ran out at the last test and the last pot is on a ship bound for Bahrain...

That must where McLaren are going wrong! If they concentrated on the aerodynamics of their F1 car, instead of worrying about the flow affects on international shipping, they may be more successful..

It's too early to judge McLaren, according to Jenson.

Button said: "I still don't know where we stand. It's unfair to judge us because the amount of laps that we have done has not been massive."
"There are so many things going on and in testing it's so difficult to get an understanding anyway.
"The soft compared to the hard tyre is one and a half seconds quicker and if someone has the super-soft here it's another second.

And, are Ferrari doing OK? Well, Fernando said; "There is completely zero information about what the others are doing so we are not to worry".

With the number of unknowns, whether they are known unknowns or unknown unknowns, who's to know what's going on...

At one point during testing today my heart was lifted, Jenson had just started what was to be his penultimate run and Sebastian was into his race simulation, circulating on his second set of tyres. Jenson's times were mirroring Sebastian's, there was nothing in it. And had Jenson continued and completed a race simulation I would have been in no doubt as to the competitiveness of the McLaren. Unfortunately he stopped after 15 laps and retired to the garage. If he had a full tank of fuel and the soft tyre on that run then the McLaren is actually quite a nifty car. You never know, if they can get some reliability tomorrow there is one guy who isn't going to hang about wondering how fast the MP4-26 is. Come on Lewis! Laps out for the lads! :friends:

It does look like McLaren are particularly poor.

But no flow-vis paint, so its not that bad!
but theres invisable flow-viz now, so we'll never know :)

Oh and can somebody explain to me why Lotus were running Ricardo Teixeira??!!. would of thought running your Gp drivers getting them used to the car, doing the devlopment work, trying to gain that few extra tenths before the start of the season would be of utmost importance, rather then running an 28 year old rookie who's only driven an F1 car once

yeah, sort of thoughts so, cannot help thinking though in the long run whats gunna raise more money?

A few extra quid from running an pay-test driver, or getting a bit of extra devlopment work in, more feedback from two experienced half decent F1 drivers gaining a tenth here n there, and eventually getting a point from that and the rest of the work that will be done

yeah, it's a bit short sighted. I'm sure a possible improvement in the WCC position is worth more than the money from a pay driver. Unless of course they need the money now just to get through the season?
