Grand Prix 2024 Mexico City Grand Prix Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

Following the largest break between races, excluding the summer shutdown since 2023 due to the cancellation of the Chinese Grand Prix, & 1999 when there was a 5 week gap between the 1st & 2nd races, we are currently experiencing a compact schedule with 4 races in 5 weeks before the season concludes in the Middle East. Interestingly, this demonstrates the recent expansion of the calendar; Kimi Räikkönen secured his sole championship 2007 on the 21st October, (which was yesterday from the time of writing), yet this year, there are still 5 races remaining.

This weekend is what we think could potentially host the penultimate Mexican Grand Prix. (as i think it was Bill Boddy deserves the credit if it is) aAs many anticipate Sergio Perez's departure from F1 at the end of the year, which would likely mark the end of his tenure, a retirement announcement was expected on Thursday. Contrary to expectations, Perez insists he's not leaving, stating, "I just wanted to make it clear that I will 100% be here in 2025. I have a contract and I will fulfill it." & you know nothing would please me more if sergio perez could win his home race. it would be a dream come true for him & maybe a nice way to leave the sport

However, the general consensus is that the 2025 Mexican GP may lack local interest for the first time, leading to a struggle in ticket sales, and it's doubtful the contract will be extended beyond 2025. im going to throw this out there should Colapinto secure a seat in 2025 & continue to impress, we might see the Mexican GP dropped & their 'Americas' venue replaced with a return to Argentina.

which if Mexican GP does go, i cant say id be too sad about, as i dont mean to be harsh. but i cant think of an entertaining race weve had in the 10? years since we returned. yes we have had dramatic moments perez last yr forgetting to break, verstappen a glimpse into the future 2016, Bottas crashing into kimi in 2015 on the final lap & thinking about it that might be it.

& as we are in mexico here is a mexican wave

I hope Checo performs well and doesn't get a DNF this time in front of his home crowd.
i really hope checo perez wins this weekend or at worst is on the podium. nothing (bar max getting his comeuppance) would make me happier

im still expecting some announcement tomorrow

end of season they say. but if i was perez i would get ahead of it like mark webber

Well not surprised Helmut once again opens his mouth.

I think Perez should screw Verstappen because the only people he needs to make happy are the fans. I don't see Perez driving in 2025

The arrival of Colapinto (and his out-performance of Albon) has set the cat amongst the pigeons in the silly season. It will be a travesty if, at the end of the season, Perez keeps his seat, and Colapinto loses his...
  • Ollie Bearman is getting a seat at Haas, despite the fact that he's struggling a little in F2 (15th as we stand, albeit with two victories in sprint races)
  • Antonelli is getting a prize seat at Mercedes, despite the fact that he's down in 6th in the championship
  • Doohan is joining Alpine, despite not racing for the last 12 months - and only finishing 3rd in F2 in 2023.
Were I Williams, I'd be hunting around in Albon's contract to see if there's a break clause they can activate - as otherwise, Colapinto could find himself going to Red Bull to replace Perez (or more likely RB Cash App Visa Torro Minardi Rosso the Faenza team to replace Ricciardo.

Seriously Colapinto will not go to Red Bull unless he is guaranteed he is freed to race see Nyck De Vries treatment.

Also Red Bull have Hadjar

The Artist..... Colopinto fully deserves a drive. i wish liberty media would take a lead out of bernies book & say we've got a driver that needs a seat for next yr. audi / sauber youve got seat with no one to fill it. take colopinto. everyone wins

i like bearman i think his 1st season is more representative of his talents. 5th in the championship & 3 wins & he should be closer to antotelli in the championship if he hadnt had to sub in for sainz & Magnussen. also team hadnt cocked up i the pits at imola

i agree on the F2 problems. i think its a very strong year for f2. & its probably a unrealistic idea in practise. but i would love that you win F2 you get a seat in F1. because F2 has almost stopped being relevant & is almost the opposite of what America has done very well. as i got stats from 2011 to present day

F2
9 of the last 14 champions have made it to F1 at some point

5 of those 14 have driven in F1 as reigning champion (5 as mick schumacher doesnt count)

Realistically 2018 was the last time a reigning champion went straight into F1

IndyNXT

12 of the last 13 champions have made it to Indycar at some point

10 or 11 of those 13 have driven in indycar as reigning champion

the last 6 indy nxt champions have got full season drives the following year
