Grand Prix 2024 Mexico City Grand Prix Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

Following the largest break between races, excluding the summer shutdown since 2023 due to the cancellation of the Chinese Grand Prix, & 1999 when there was a 5 week gap between the 1st & 2nd races, we are currently experiencing a compact schedule with 4 races in 5 weeks before the season concludes in the Middle East. Interestingly, this demonstrates the recent expansion of the calendar; Kimi Räikkönen secured his sole championship 2007 on the 21st October, (which was yesterday from the time of writing), yet this year, there are still 5 races remaining.

This weekend is what we think could potentially host the penultimate Mexican Grand Prix. (as i think it was Bill Boddy deserves the credit if it is) aAs many anticipate Sergio Perez's departure from F1 at the end of the year, which would likely mark the end of his tenure, a retirement announcement was expected on Thursday. Contrary to expectations, Perez insists he's not leaving, stating, "I just wanted to make it clear that I will 100% be here in 2025. I have a contract and I will fulfill it." & you know nothing would please me more if sergio perez could win his home race. it would be a dream come true for him & maybe a nice way to leave the sport

However, the general consensus is that the 2025 Mexican GP may lack local interest for the first time, leading to a struggle in ticket sales, and it's doubtful the contract will be extended beyond 2025. im going to throw this out there should Colapinto secure a seat in 2025 & continue to impress, we might see the Mexican GP dropped & their 'Americas' venue replaced with a return to Argentina.

which if Mexican GP does go, i cant say id be too sad about, as i dont mean to be harsh. but i cant think of an entertaining race weve had in the 10? years since we returned. yes we have had dramatic moments perez last yr forgetting to break, verstappen a glimpse into the future 2016, Bottas crashing into kimi in 2015 on the final lap & thinking about it that might be it.

& as we are in mexico here is a mexican wave

i think Lando when he got back will be happier with 3rd than 2nd. clean side of the grid, nice slipstream, barring any verstappen antics be at least 2nd after that 1st corner

Lando would be well advised to simply "fail to make the first corner", straight line it, and take off into the distance. After all, we saw in Austin that indiscretions on the first lap don't count.

he'll certainly be ahead at the apex

verstappen did it in 2016, with the added tantrum, back his teammate into vettel & just got 5 secs.

I could imagine the outrage even further if a team was competing for the championship whose race was ruined by a driver who should not be where there are on the track ... see the inconsistencies . Its the equivalent of someone who should be sinbinned in Rugby or sent off in football but is still interferring with the outcome

Wait till that flashpoint comes up

consider me shocked, verstappen shoving sainz off at the 1st corner. surely not he's always the innocent victim

it looks like the stewards are making up for the mess up in Austin, by actually giving Verstappen a penalty.

They just need to do that at each of the remaining events, and it might begin to sink in.

im fascinated to see how Christian "lie through your teeth" Horner, defends the indefensible later on in the interviews. 2 x 10 was the least he deserved & for the move at the esses, i had half a mind to black flag verstappen

Verstappen needs to be banned because it was so clear he forced Norris off first one

The 2nd one he attempted to run him further off

By driving dirty he succeeded in Norris not getting the win which was the obvious next best result for him

Today has reinforced my view, that just like Michael Schumacher, Max Verstappen uses his car as a form of weapon. It’s either let me through or we have accident.

Johnny Carwash thats why my silverstone 2021 belief is enforced that as a 1 off yes it was 50/50 both shouldve given room. but history shows that verstappen caused that crash because of the ultimatum you said. & hamilton realised that you have to call max's bluff

I think Norris has only woken up to that now.

Now I think about it the only way Verstappen needs some sense slapped into him is someone send him or he sends himself to hospital and the stay is longer than an overnight check up. He can lie in the hospital bed and think about his mortality
