Grand Prix 2016 Canadian Grand Prix Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

Battle for the drivers championship recommenced in Monaco and next we are off to one of Lewis Hamilton's favourite and most productive races at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. Only Michael Schumacher has won more races at this track than Lewis.

But wait, Red Bull are having a resurgence and back in 2014 Daniel Ricciardo recorded his maiden win. Only kidding, expect this to be a battle royal between the two Mercedes drivers for both pole and the race win. Lewis has exorcised some demons after Monaco and Nico looked to be back to the sort of form he had at the start of the 2015 season.

Red Bull are taking the fight to be "best of the rest" to Ferrari and with the upgraded Renault engine might even have gone past the Scuderia. Canada has not been a happy hunting ground for either Vettel or Raikkonen and it will be very interesting to see how the red cars stack up against the fizzy drink machines. What money on Max Verstappen have some sort of interaction with the Wall of Champions at least once during the weekend.

Williams must hope that Canada will better suit their cars than Monaco did. Force India are pushing them to be next best after the big three and will be boosted by Sergio Perez's podium in the principality. Toro Rosso can certainly mix it with Williams and Force India but last years Ferrari engine might not have quite enough puff to allow them to keep up on the faster sections.

McLaren look to be getting some form back with both cars scoring points in Monaco. Haas and Renault will be next up. Jolyon Palmer will have to get a wiggle on or I suspect he might well be out of a driver at some point in the near future.

Last, and probably least, Sauber and Manor will be at the back. After the fun between the two Sauber drivers in Monte Carlo I expect them to be a little more circumspect in Canada. Over at Manor, Pascal Wehrlein needs to up his game against Rio Haryanto if he wants a better drive for next year.

Canada often gives us a fun race, I wonder what we will get this year?

Interesting fact just found out that tonight is our only visit to either north or south america continent for the 1st 17 races & then 3 consecutive races USA Mexico & Brazil

I am more than a little concerned that Mercedes still has the quickest car by some margin but can only win races if their opposition make obviously, unbelievably lousy strategy calls...:clip:

Indeed it was. Just making a cheeky point regarding the lack of discussion of the coming together and speculating about the level of discussion if it was the other way around.

Anyway, on this occasion the front of the grid were waiting a hell of a long time. It's a wonder their clutches weren't on fire by the time the lights went on.

Well, not really, it was another shit start by Hamilton.
And what about Rosberg start?
The reaction to the fading lights in both Mercedes today has been no delay.
It was not first race in this season when both Mercedes pilot acceliration on the start was so slower then Ferrari.
May be reason is Ferrari cheat?

That is the second time in 11 races that Hamilton has actually rammed Rosberg off the circuit - he can't keep getting away with it forever. Squeezing the guy on the outside while you are ahead is accepted and expected, running into the guy who is ahead of you to push him off the circuit is absolutely not.
Very strong drive from Hamilton otherwise.

He hasn't rammed anyone off the road.

In 2014 the same exact scenario played out when Nico drove deep into T1 leaving Lewis out to dry. Looking at that race thread Grand Prix - 2014 Canadian Grand Prix Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion it shows that even us looney Hamilton fans had literally nothing untoward to say about the incident. You're not going around the outside of Turn 1 in Canada. The insinuation that Lewis fans would be going nuts is intellectually dishonest and factually inaccurate.

Anyway, another incredible drive and result for Car #44.

Some of the back markers getting in the way were appalling in this race. I started to think that Haas that blocked Seb towards the end was racing for position! Surprised there weren't any penalties for not moving out of the way after 3 blue flags.
