Grand Prix 2010 Chinese Grand Prix Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

Well here we go for round 4 and the third long haul race in a row. For those of us in Europe that's going to mean another early start on Saturday and Sunday.

It seems longer than 2 weeks since the last GP and the motorsport press has been unusually quiet. Most teams are set to introduce their early season upgrades in time for the Spanish GP so don't expect the status quo to change too drastically this weekend.

If the Red Bulls can keep their cars on the track and in full working order then it's going to be difficult to see any one else topping the time sheets over the weekend.

Ferrari have announced that they are going to test a Mclaren style F-Duct in practice so it will be interesting to see if that makes any difference.

Further down the field Lotus have announced they will be adding a couple of upgrades that may be worth a few 10ths and Force India will continue to use Paul Da Resta in first practice as he continues his F1 education.

Re: 2010 Chinese GP Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

Just for fun and obviously can't be taken seriously in the overall context of the results, but here's a picture of how it might have looked pitstop corrected if they were all smart and made the same choices.

This is worked on the basis that Button, Rosberg, Kubica, Petrov & Kovalainen stopped twice. All others stopped 4 times with the exception of Hulkenberg & Alguersuari who both stopped 6 times!! (i think by even worse strategy and accident damage) So taking the quickest 2 pitstops off each drivers time (just for arguments sake and no scientific maths applied) and taking nothing else into account, i.e. saftey cars remain in play as does Alsonso's drive through penalty.

1 Lewis Hamilton
2 Fernando Alonso
3 Sebastian Vettel
4 Jenson Button
5 Mark Webber
6 Nico Rosberg
7 Felipe Massa
8 Rubens Barrichello
9 Michael Schumacher
10 Adrian Sutil
11 Robert Kubica
12 Jaime Alguersuari
13 Vitaly Petrov
14 Nico Hulkenberg
15 Heikki Kovalainen
16 Bruno Senna
17 Karun Chandhok

Looking at the overtaking stat's for China, it's interesting that once again Hamilton and Alonso are up at the top with 11 and 9 passes respectively.

Button made just 1 pass on Rosberg from 5th to take the win.

One can only over-take what's in front of you. If most of 'em will get out of the way by pitting, then... ;)

Re: 2010 Chinese GP Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

the german commentators were going a bit over the top tby, they did notice that too :) mclaren to them is still a german team too.

the difference between top teams and sub top teams is getting worrying. so are the mistakes and problems, especially technical whoopsadaisies. i know we are in a transition period but i am not sure thats any reason for all of the mayhem. but it does make good viewing.

i am not sure i watched an F1 race or an entertainment performance. probably entertainment. oh well, i had a good time.

Martin Brundle is not nearly as good humoured as he used be, I even recall him cracking jokes when he worked for ITV... :bored:

Yeah, and that female streaker who ran across the track on the slowing down lap was disgusting. Lewis Hamilton had to give her his helmet to cover he modesty !!!

You wouldn't want to watch that FB.

You lot lied to me, the race was quite exciting. I'm never going to believe anything any of you say ever again, ever

In the interests of balance, I think a hell of a lot of people feel that way about the Tories too. And probably the Lib Dems.

I love how BBC 'non-bias' only extends 3 parties deep. I think the Green Party, for example, should have a platform. Ecosocialism hasn't had a voice for a long time! And of course OMRLP has had little to no coverage! (UKIP has had far too much coverage!)

Re: 2010 Chinese GP Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

I've been a bit off topic for a couple of days, there's just not been any FIA-FOTA wars or mad Ferrari accusations to be getting on with...
