Marcus Ericsson has come out and said his 'agents' are in talks with Williams about him getting that second seat (this is on the back of Ferrari suggesting they'd pay Sauber a ton of cash to run both Ferrari junior drivers).

If I were managing Williams right now I'd have gone for Kevin Magnussen. He's been fighting his ass off in midfield and that's what Williams need.

Too late now though.

Jolyon is better than his Dad and Jonathan drove for Williams. Who would you sign?
He's better than his dad. That statement really stretches and pulls apart my imagination.

Palmer or Ericsson. In Germany they would say that like having to choose zwischen Pest und Cholera.

jez101 I would respectfully disagree that Jolyon is better than his father. As for alternatives, any of Massa, Kubica, di Resta, Sutil, Gutierrez, d'Ambrosio, Glock, Kovalainen, Buemi, Rosenqvist, Hartley...I mean it would be quicker to list options that would be worse.

You really think Jolyon is that bad, Galahad ?

Clearly Jonathan was not that good! Nice guy, good businessman, yes... But as slow as a granddad when he was in F1.

To be fair to Dr Jonathan, I don't think anyone would have looked fast in a RAM or Zakspeed and between 1984 and 1988 he beat all of his team mates. It was only when he was paired alongside Albereto and Alesi in 1989 that he was outclassed.

Apart from this weekends result, Jolyan has looked more than second best to his two team mates at Renault.

I have the solution. They should keep the seat vacant. Save money by not having to run it and not having a driver potentially crash it.
It doesn't really matter who they give the seat to, because all the available and viable options are just as bad the current driver(s?). If Maldonado can bring his 45 Mio. $ they should sign him and suck his money source dry.

jez101 I'm afraid so! It's not that I think Jonathan was particularly good. It's rare these days to see a gap between team mates as large as that between Hülkenberg and Palmer, and I don't rate Magnussen either.

Of course, if he can match Nico for the remaining races this year then I'll have to reassess him.

Jolyon Palmer last year got off to a good start outqualifying KMag first race but then was genuinely outpaced.. it was towards the tail end of last season he was more than a match for K Mag

With Williams apparently they will make some big changes to the car for 2018 but they have gone from previously less than 0.5 seconds a lap slower to over 2 seconds slower in the 4 years using the same engine as Mercedes

Lawrence Stroll wants Di Resta or Massa according to Italian media reports. I wonder why he wants to have a say in this and why he is picking two of F1s worst drivers...
