A place to put all the posts from all the other threads primarily but love him or hate him, and even for the indifferent amongst us this is the place to discuss the marmite that is Lewis Hamilton, to learn a thing or two about his rise, talk about those controversial, genius or mad moments and something that i am bemused by, the recent articles that suggest something quite different to my perception of what's going on. Any experiences of meeting LH?

Brundle had to write a Lewis Hamilton article recently and in my tweets (which were probably ignored) I asked him to talk about LH the driver not LH the personality. It seems that you can't have one without the other.

Here's one for the statisticians among us: Just how many other drivers have scored multiple wins and podiums in every F1 season in which they have competed?

Ayrton Senna scored multiple podiums in every F1 season from 1984-93; of course he did compete in 1994 though...
Jim Clark scored one podium in every F1 season he competed in, but only one in 1960 (and of course 1968).
Juan Manuel Fangio scored multiple podiums in all his F1 seasons save 1958, but did come fourth in his one race that year...

In short, none.
 
Agreed. Let us hope that he is given the car to do the job. Mercedes and Ross Brawn will want results and I have a feeling that the last thing they want will be another year of embarrassment and under achievement. I'm also sure that they will want, at the very least, to ensure that this "building year" with Lewis needs progress at a positive rate through the season. Replicating McLaren's team errors could be disastrous especially if such issues affect Lewis's mind-set.

Whilst those things may pile extra pressure on the F1 team it's also a mighty incentive for Daimler-Mercedes to back the team to the hilt. I hope so anyway.
 
The key for Mercedes is to start the year with a car that is in the same ball park as where they started 2012. If they can do that I can see Lewis winning multiple races, and he could even win the championship if they sort out their reliability and tyre wear issues.

They fell back massively at the end of 2012 though and the chances of them reclaiming that are slim, as well as the fact that they will almost certainly be focusing on 2014.
 
I guess all I'm saying is that Mercedes were quicker than Ferrari at the start of the 2012 season and look at what Alonso managed...

The most likely scenario is they start 2013 where they left off in 2012 and quickly abandon the season in 2013, but stranger things have happened.
 
Yep, like I said above: 1) Rediscover early 2012 pace, 2) Improve reliability, 3) Improve tyre wear. It's unlikely but not outside the realm of possibility. If they manage it though I'd expect Lewis to have a season like Raikkonen did in 2012 at the very least.

sushifiesta......I believe that the Mercedes board will frown upon the F1 team starting the 2013 season, the way they ended up in 2012.
 
Having spoken to a couple of people from Mercedes, there is a mixed feeling at the moment about the car. There is a general buzz because of the changes, but the feeling is that the car is a large unknown at the moment, especially as there are some areas where they have essentially had to start from scratch, where some of the top teams have a head start.

For comparison, with the 2009 Brawn car, they knew at this stage that they had something special.

All that said, the car is not yet finished, it has not been put through its paces on the test rig, and it has not turned a wheel, so making a judgement at this point would be foolish.
 
Let's hope those guns fit inside his race suit. Also hope he realises F1 is an endurance event and having lots of explosive effort muscle isn't going to be very useful. F1 drivers physiques are quite difficult aren't they, they need the brute strength of a sprinter to handle the cars but long twitch muscles of a marathon runner to keep going for a couple of hours.
 
I am pretty sure that all of his training will be under the guidance of his personal driving fitness trainer. My personal problem (sometimes a gift)in Karting is that I have a high metabolism and can lose and gain muscle weight quicker than anyone I know. Three karting sessions in a week and I will put on close to 2.5kg. No Karting for a week and it's gone again. It makes it very difficult, or sometimes easy, to get myself in the right window for different weight divisions. I lost 4kg between the last race of 2012 in November and the first race of 2013 this weekend. I already have 2kg of that weight back from my practice sessions last week and my racing over the weekend. I seem to be able to eat as much as I like and not put on an ounce after a good sleep and a day in the office. Having been a professional cyclist I used to be all legs and no arms and now I'm the other way round.

Sports fitness is a madness.

The Pits....Making early judgements now maybe foolish as you say, but little tidbits of insider info that you may have, are surely welcome to fans like myself.
