Poll Top 10 Drivers of 2024

F1Brits_90

World Champion
It's that time of year again to embrace the annual traditions. no not Christmas, but the 2024 CTA Driver of the Year. I always suggest a top 10, but it's your choice: top 3, top 5, or top 10. It's the only time of the year when there truly are no wrong answers. if you think Perez should be top 10. its your choice on who merits a place in your list then thats your opinion. & its a fun way to get everyone's opinion on how the 2024 grid fared this season & who you thought impressed or who you thought disappointed.

just post it below. like F1 the top driver gets 25pts, 10th gets 1pt. the driver with most points when everyone who wants to post has posted . Will be highly prestigious 2024 CTA Driver of the year & join these great 8 drivers like these who have won it & the winner will be likely be announced at Christmas

  1. Verstappen - purely on track he is best driver of 2024 when he focuses on driving. he has done a year similar to few hamilton titles, didnt have the best car but he always maximised what he could, sao paulo was outstanding drive, i just wish i saw more of that than mexico
  2. Norris - i think its often overlooked he hadnt won his 1st race. until miami & title shot was always unexpected. the inexperience showed with his mistakes when he realised he was in with a shot
  3. Leclerc - impressive driving really. off the top of my head. i cant think where he disappointed. great wins in monaco & 2nd monza win in a ferrari made him a god
  4. Sainz - for the start of the year he had. he's had a very good year, the comeback victory in austraila was amazing & albon has a very difficult 2025 upcoming
  5. Piastri - i feel like he slightly underperformed, he's had some good weekends but beside Baku & Hungary. he's always trailed Norris
  6. Russell - he's had few great weekend but too many bad weekends
  7. Hamilton - when the car was good mid season the magic was back & british gp is my favourite moment of the season. but he has had real struggles with the car.
  8. Hulkenburg - its no surprise, even 37, Audi/Sauber hired him, always a 7/10, rarely if ever has a bad race
  9. Tsunoda - brilliant start to the year & then has consistently been better than his teammates
  10. Gasly - tough start, but has ended the season very strongly & impressed me

1. Verstappen - for the fact he was more consistent than everyone and won with a great drive in Brazil. I suspect next year will be even tougher as there were signs that he can be vulnerable and beatable
2. Norris - No doubt has the speed , he needs to work on his starts and wheel to wheel racing and stop holding himself back . Given the many opportunities clearly should have been closer to Verstappen
3. Leclerc - as ever very fast and has a poor pole to win ratio. Its got to happen soon that he will put in a consistent championship challenge over a season. Perhaps next year could be it
4. Russell - on 1 lap speed clearly one of the quickest . Race pace has improved but definitely more to come and needs to become a consistent Verstappen challenger
5. Sainz - the smooth operator had some great wins and standout performances which makes Mercedes and Red Bull decisions not to sign him baffling. Maybe at Williams he will show what others never saw in him a top flight No 1
6. Piastri - one of the few drivers who is prepared to race hard wheel to wheel with Verstappen in the future no doubt . He can be close to Norris and has shown can outrace him but not reached the consistency level yet so could be one to watch for 2025
7. Hulkenberg - the Haas appearing in the top 10 was down to him regularly
8. Hamilton - a tale of 3 parts to his season. No longer has the ultimate speed and struggled with the knife edge ground effect cars. Was only able to turn it on when he felt in the mood culminating with the glorious Silverstone win. Expect him to be fired up for 2025 though
9. Gasly - took Alpine forward more from their dreadful start
10. Tsunoda - given he was suppose to be the whipping boy . He has come out with a better reputation and his rejection by Red Bull is ludicrous

Not quite made it
Alonso - Given how bad the car went backwards he still outperformed Stroll by a margin
Albon - some missed chances plus Colapinto was surprisingly onto his pace
Bottas - zilch points does no justice where he was let down by the team's operational failures
Bearman - the super sub has done well initially
Colapinto - A vast improvement on Sargent but then some expected crashes as his inexperience shows

To consign to the scrap heap

Stroll - good luck Adrian with dealing with the junked chassis

I've thought about this thread for a while and I haven't got an answer for it.

It's been a season where I couldn't say any single driver has covered themselves in glory.

Verstappen made hay while he had a car to do so and his teammate completely fell apart.

Norris's inability to start races and his lack of aggression during them cost him any hope of a title challenge. Meanwhile Piastri had to play second fiddle.

Both Ferrari drivers did what they could in a car that only occasionally showed some pace.

Mercedes were nowhere in the hunt for most of the season, Russell was more consistent as Hamilton's age is starting to tell.

Albon and Tsunoda led their teams with some verve but I wouldn't describe either as driver of the season.

The rest of them made up the numbers.

While Verstappen won the title he's such an unlikeable asshole who perfected a method of crashing through corners, leading to the thick as mince stewards constantly coming down on his opponent, I can't award him driver of the season.

To that end, sadly, my response is "none of the above"

Good on you for your principles. Here is my wishing someone will cripple him into retirement or Kelly making him think about their future

I would certainly never, ever wish someone would cripple him into retirement. I find that attitude extremely disheartening.

As much as I'm not a fan of his approach to racing or his attitude, I'd never wish him to come to harm. Not a great post frankly.

I am afraid its going to take something like that before they panic again about the rules of engagement. You see the last few races Verstappen is beginning to act like he is untouchable like the incoming US president and going
After the stewards, the press or anyone who dares to criticise or challenge him.

The Dutch said Russell was weak for crying about Verstappen going to put him in the wall at Qatar. The rest of the field have got to realise Verstappen lives by 'Kill or be killed mentality. The guy thinks he is bulletproof to an extreme even beyond Senna

with all the snow i meant to do this weekend but forgot to sort it out.

(those in brackets are last years placings)
1) (1) - Verstappen 100 :1st:
2) (4) - Norris - 69 :2nd:
3) (7) - Leclerc - 63 :3rd:

4) (8) - Piastri - 52
5) (2) - Hamilton - 47
6) (9) - Russell - 44
7) (6) - Sainz - 42
8) (*) - Hulkenburg- 33
9) (1) - Gasly - 7
10) (13) - Tsunoda - 4
11) (5) - Alonso - 1

- Perez, Stroll, Ocon, Magnussen, Albon, Riccardio, Colopinto, Sargeant, Bottas, Lawson, & Zhou all got no votes

I tried to contact Verstappen to send him the trophy, but appartantly i got blocked because i was apart of the biased British media, but its fine i sent Christian Horner a whatsapp ;)
