Team History

Before Red Bull

In 1997 Paul Stewart, aided by his father Jackie and the Ford Motor Company, made the leap from F3000 to F1 as an entrant. Jonny Herbert won 1 race for the Stewart team before it was sold off to Ford who re-branded the cars as Jaguar.

Ford stuck with it through thick and thin (mainly thin) through to the end of 2004 before selling the team to Dietrich Mateschitz, who owns the Red Bull drinks brand, for $1 on the understanding he invested $400 million over 3 years

Red Bull Racing

With Christian Horner installed as team principal, McLaren refugee David Coulthard and Christian Klien as the drivers Red Bull went racing. Their first season was certainly more successful than Jaguar had managed, even with the same Cosworth power plant, with Coulthard managing a 4th place at the European Grand Prix and the team finishing 7th in the Constructors Championship.

Adrian Newey joined from McLaren as chief designer for 2006 and Red Bull swapped to Ferrari engines. Coulthard managed a podium at his "home" race in Monaco prompting Christian Horner to jump naked, other than wearing a red cape, into a swimming pool.

Christian Klien, who shared the car with Vitantonio Liuzzi in 2005 and Robert Doornbos in 2006, departed the team for 2007 and was replaced by Mark Webber. The RB3 was the first full "Newey" car and was coupled with a Renault motor. The car was very unreliable, suffering from a variety of different problems but Webber managed a podium at the European Grand Prix and the team finished 5th in the WCC.

Retaining the same engine and drivers for 2008 Red Bull slipped back to 7th in the WCC and again only managed a single podium, for Coulthard in Canada, but the reliability issues which plagued the car the previous season were mainly resolved.

2009 was Red Bull's break through year. With Coulthard having retired Webber was joined by Red Bull junior driver Sebastien Vettel. The new rules allowed Newey to design a car which challenged for both the Drivers and Constructors Championship. Webber won 2 races, Vettel 4 and the team climbed to 2nd in WCC taking 3 pole positions en-route.

In 2010 Red Bull justified Mateschitz's investment winning the Constructors title and Vettel the Drivers Championship. They won 9 races through the season, 5 for Vettel and 4 for Webber and took 10 poles. Webber led the title race for much of the season but it was the 23 year old Vettel who stole the title in the last race of the season and became the youngest Champion as a result.

2011 sees the team retain the same driver line up as 2010 and continue with Renault engine power in the new RB7 car.

Anyone would think Horner was a government minister, he sent and received some mild sexy texts, it wasn't as though he was caught having it away across his desk, it's been blown out of all proportion by the Von Strappons and the fact his missus Geri Halliwell, who only has to appear on a beach in a bikini for it to be splashed all over the front pases of red tops. Not that I'm one of his fans, but this has got stupid

Interestingly Jos has been seen hanging with Toto so Max to Mercedes is making noises to up the ante to get rid of Horner
that would make 2025 interesting because the only way to end domination is to get top driver alongside verstappen. in a prost / senna type way. or 1 of the best drivers isnt in the best car.

if i was liberty media id be taking a leaf out of the bernie playbook, being the puppet maker. because i can already tell that from the little qoutes you get on live tv, sky sports & bbc 5 live arent pleased. just it to be competitive. so if 2023 happens through 24 & 25. dread what state this sport will be in by new rules in 2026

if this is true. it just gets deeper & deeper into the horner saga. it would seem that austrians want him gone because Horner tried to buy 51% off the Thais without austrians knowledge

Precisely the Red Bull Racing sphere - to be extended also to the Red Bull Technologies branch - would be at the basis of the visceral internal struggle within the Milton Keynes team which even led to the diffusion of WhatsApp correspondence between Christian Horner and an employee, messages whose veracity must be verified. A baseness to which those who want to see Christian Horner defeated have been reduced, resulting in a criminal act such as disseminating private material, an act so extreme that it gives the measure of how unacceptable the fact that Christian Horner survived is to the 'instigator' to the internal investigation by Red Bull at the end of which he was relieved of all charges
Yesterday FormulaPassion.it reported the indiscretion according to which what made Christian Horner's presence no longer bearable was the attempt to separate Red Bull Racing/Technologies from the rest of the Red Bull galaxy with the blessing of owner Chalerm Yoovidhya who holds the 51% of the shares and with a solid list of British investors ready to support the operation led by Christian Horner.
This indiscretion is finding numerous confirmations in authoritative newspapers and signatures of the Circus. In the latest episode of his blog, Joe Saward reported the fact that Horner has expressed his intention to make the entire 'automotive' sector of Red Bull autonomous, thus returning to having full control of operations, an autonomy he already enjoyed when Dietrich Mateschitz was alive. Furthermore, the Business F1 magazine, in the vast and in-depth report in which all the stages and facets of this scandal involving Horner were summarized, underlined that for the first time in the last financial year, Red Bull's automotive activity closed the balance sheet in the black without the need for interventions by the parent company to cover economic losses. Red Bull Racing/Technologies is therefore profitable or at least not at a loss, Christian Horner has tried to take definitive possession of it to obtain more power than he has at the moment and - in all likelihood - this attempted 'coup' is the original sin that has cost Horner (for now) becoming the target of a mud machine that has already been willing to disseminate private material (we repeat, the veracity of which remains to be ascertained) in order to discredit him.

that takes another twist.

i wonder what Horner's words will be to whoever crosses the line first this weekend? I dont think he needs to fuel Verstappen's ego anymore that he is the greatest driver that ever lived and kiss his butt .

This is the dumbest involvement by a father in his sons affairs since Anthony Hamilton started briefing against McLaren.

Max Verstappen has the best car on the grid, the best designer of F1 cars for the last 35 years, a team that is built around kissing his backside and a teammate who, when not being screwed over by his team, Max could beat with one arm tied behind his back.

He wants to give all of that up and join a team that have won one race in the last two seasons just because his Dad and his boss have had a falling out over a lady.

im hope jos wins his battle, because this is fantastic news after seeing red bull win 28 of the last 30 races, red bull imploded. we might get a decent race to watch soon

all the best drivers win championships with 2 teams, & verstappen doesnt want to be a vettel, a very successful & talented driver but is never at schumacher level because he only won with newey

Yes but I hope he does not get Max into Mercedes because I drive a Mercedes and I don't want to have to buy a new car to avoid being associated with that self-centered prick.

Strongly disagree with this line. I think it's a pretty arbitrary designation that doesn't represent the skill of a driver.

Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart and Ayrton Senna won all of their titles with a single team. Graham Hill, Emerson Fittipaldi and Nelson Piquet won titles with 2 teams. Who would you say were the greater group of drivers?

Fangio, widely regarded as one of the greatest of all time was renowned for jumping from car to car and team to team to ensure he had the best machinery at any one time. That made it a lot easier for him to win.

Jack Brabham built his own car and Niki Lauda won world titles in two massively different eras so how do you compare that?

Great drivers win when the cars they're in really shouldn't have been as successful.

i agree with the final line those that can outperform a car are the ones that stand out. its hard to compare jim clark & micheal schumacher, because the sport pre tv & post tv is completely different. but maybe i was too far on championships & more wins with more than 1 team because senna is the anomaly, because of the great things we had seen in him do in the toleman & lotus.

but there is thing where you can go into different cars & still perform at such that high level like the lauda you mention he was highly regarded because of how well he could adapt. because in modern times Newey can make most drivers look better than they are if im being harsh on riccardio highly regarded at red bull & destroyed at mclaren

You'd think so wouldn't you but not when it comes to calculating who matters more to your teams performance.

Remember the HR protects the employer not the employee. However the suggestion is she was dishonest to what level we do not know.

Its an ugly affair I wonder what the other female staff think back at MK.

Going back to Max, if Jos tells him to jump he will do it . He will ask how high otherwise he will get a beating if he does not.

I am interested to hear what Horner says to Verstappen after the race depending if he wins or not

If only someone would call this Redbullshit out......

oh....
