Nico Rosberg

Nico Erik Rosberg, son of Keijo "Keke" Erik Rosberg, is about to have his 100th Grand Prix meeting this weekend in Hungary.

I was about to write my "best wishes" to him in 'his' thread...but I couldn't find one...so, I figured I might as well start it off.

What is very interesting is that his father, Keke, took part in 114 Grand Prix races in his entire Formula One career, winning 5 of them - all for Williams from 1982 to 1985 - as well as a World Championship.

It's interesting in that Nico is approaching that number quickly and he's already about to finish off his 6th season in a few months...but without a win to his name...and no win in sight given the current pecking order of the cars.

Some say Nico is a great talent...while others say he hasn't fared well against quality teammates in their prime, so it's hard to judge. Mark Webber is, seemingly, his only reasonable benchmark and that was way back in his rookie season in a car that was one of the worst ones ever constructed by Williams.

What are people's thoughts on Nico Rosberg?

Regardless, Godspeed to Nico on the occassion of his 100th Grand Prix this weekend! :)

Rosberg is looking like he has no answer to Hamilton at the moment, and if Ferrari carry on like they did today for the rest of the season then he is going to have Vettel and Raikkonen to contend with as well.

For me, the problem with last season is that the biggest part of the performance discrepancy occurred after the post-Spa "clear the air" meeting. None of us know what truly happened at that meeting. Was it "Nico, Hamilton is faster than you, do you understand"?

Plus, after that meeting both Bernie and Lauda went on record saying that a Hamilton championship would be best for F1. That raises questions about the outcome as well. Personally, I wish those two "gentlemen" had kept their mouths shut (which neither is adept at), so that question wouldn't even exist for me.

It didn't. The discrepancy was greatest in the first five races where Hamilton won four from four poles with one DNF. The curate's egg of Monaco and Rosberg's trip down Mirabeau punctured Hamilton's progress, then came the multiple misfortunes.

Hamilton was leading in Canada when his brakes went AWOL. He failed to run in Q3 in Austria. He then won in Britain from a qualifying error, before two podiums from non-attempts at qualifying before the Spa incident.

The only race where Hamilton was truly outclassed on driving performance and speed - rather than engine failures, tactical errors and qualifying disqualification - was Monaco, and even that had question marks. The only time Rosberg got ahead of Hamilton in any aspect when not relying on such errors was when he got on top in qualifying scoring pole in 4 of the last 5 - after the Spa talk!

He was outclassed.

Rosberg was leading Hamilton in Canada for most the race until both ran into brake problems, yes Hamilton was ahead for a couple of laps before it happened.

But who knows, think Rosberg would have won that one.

dont take this as a dig, but when was the last time nico overtook lewis on track because when he's behind i never feel any like lewis is under any threat, even going back to last season & only reason why nico stayed in title battle so long in 2014 was because of lewis horrendously bad luck every gp weekend from monaco to spa suspension, brake failure. or spontaneously combusting in budapest

Rosberg is a decent driver but he isn't up to Hamilton's standard, we know for a fact that If Button was in that car he would be pushing Lewis much harder than Rosberg is.

Basically Rosberg is getting bitch slapped every race weekend..

It's the same tail as Vettel / Webber, Webber had one chance to snatch the world title and didn't make it. There after Vettel just blew him away. There were moments of course, as there has been and still will be between Rosberg and Hamilton but Rosberg is never going to get close to the title while he remains Hamilton's team mate.

Where else could Nico go though? When the Merc wasn't the class of the field he was average, now it is he's still average.

I've said it a few times but he seems to be one of those drivers who appears content to just follow the leader.

Although he did say after the Canadian GP that he was pushing as hard as he could, hoping to cause Hamilton to make a mistake.

He's just not a top tier driver and never will be.

Ah thanks no wonder I couldnt remember coming up for 14 months & I think rosberg is some of reason the races have been poor because we need a competitive battle between teammates & as I said above when nicos behind i never feel any like lewis is under any threat, im a big supporter of Lewis & all brits but its getting so bad im almost willing nico on just to have a decent race

He seems to be a driver with a rule book, he also seems to expect everyone else to use the rule book and not drive to win. According to the rule book you only win when you've followed the rules.Well that's IMO anyway.

I know what it is...

Stirling Moss holds the record for most wins without a drivers championship (16) . A rather unfortunate record that has stood for more than 50 years. Rosberg currently sits on 11 wins.

Will Rosberg match and/or break this record?
