Team History

The Mercedes team history splits into two parts. In 1954 the famous pre-war Silver Arrows entered the F1 world championship and recorded a 1-2 at their first race. Fangio went on to win the drivers championship that year and again in 1955. Mercedes withdrew at the end of the 1955 season after the accident which killed 80 spectators at Le Mans which involved one of their cars.

The current team entered F1 in 2010 after Mercedes bought Brawn Grand Prix. Brawn Grand Prix, winners of the Drivers Championship, with Jenson Button, and the constructor’s championship in 2009, grew out of the ashes of Honda’s F1 entry after Honda had withdrawn from F1 at the end of the 2008 season after only a single Grand Prix win for Button in Hungary 2006.

Prior to the Honda takeover in 2006 the team had raced under the name of British America racing which had acquired the assets and race entry of the Tyrrell F1 team in 1999. BAR competed in 118 races without a single victory. The high points for the team were 2 pole positions (both for Button – San Marino 2004 and Canada 2005) and 2nd in the constructors championship in 2004.

Tyrrell were amongst the most successful private F1 teams taking part in 463 Grands Prix, scoring 33 victories and 3 Drivers Championships, all with Jackie Stewart.

2010

Having replaced Button and Barrichello with Nico Rosberg and 7 times WDC Michael Schumacher many expected great things of the new Mercedes team in 2010 but they had an indifferent season.

Rosberg managed 3 podiums for the team but Schumacher, coming back from retirement, struggled with the new cars, tyres and limited testing under the revised regulations. The team finished 4th in the Constructors Championship.

2011

For 2011 Mercedes retain the same driver line up and are hoping for better things from their MGP W02 chassis.

I can't remember the name of the device but it is a tap which is the opposite of the direction of the usual direction. If the nut is a right handed one then the tap is a left hand one.
That's typically to remove a bolt.

An extractor won't work for nuts but you can use a splitter or rounded nut tool.

However, there's nothing available for something as bespoke as an F1 wheel nut, so they'll like just grind/Dremel it off.

I just don't understand why these sorts of shots aren't available during the race... In terms of the "story of the race" - this would have been a really important bit of footage!

The race director couldn't be arsed to follow Vettel and Gasly up the hill into Casino Square when they were fighting wheel to wheel, so you can't expect them to clip out a bit of useful footage like that?

So Horner thinks Toto should not roast his team in public for subpar performances

That is rich coming from someone who loves to roast the No2 drivers in public or never prepared to back them when Marko opens his mouth or even change his tact

In fairness to Christian Horner and Red Bull, a fizzy drink company has taken on and beaten some of the largest motor vehicle manufacturers, and companies who dedicate their entire existence to F1. In reality they should be, at best, a sponsor.

In the last 10 years it's 6-4 to Mercedes over Red Bull, with no one else even getting close. I can't see Mercedes, Ferrari or McLaren going in to the energy drink market and giving Red Bull a kicking any time soon.

its amazing how quickly the no blame culture disappears when they are in title battle

There seems to a bit more tension in the Merc team for sure.

Horner is playing mind games maybe someone should tell him that Red Bull's dominance is down to Newey and they took their eyes off the ball they have been playing catch up ever since including publicly berating their engine partner.

Russell is now making more noises that he wants a decision by Spa where his future lies with Merc saying he is a free agent at the end of the season and not racing to be 15th in F1

- Seriously his only other is Williams as Red Bull will simply promote Albon back uf Verstappen goes so its really now or never

Hamilton apparently willing to take a pay cut for increased bonus incentive
- I wonder if the Mercedes top dogs might think this is too much still to keep him so the only option is retire

There is little said about Bottas I think he's gone down the pecking order at Mercedes. The next few races - the upcoming triple header might decide if he completes the season or not

Ocon - he has not got a seat at Renault so emerges as a surprise bet now and has outshone Alonso. How hard will Alpine want to keep him.when Gasly's name been mentioned
