Current Lewis Hamilton

A place to put all the posts from all the other threads primarily but love him or hate him, and even for the indifferent amongst us this is the place to discuss the marmite that is Lewis Hamilton, to learn a thing or two about his rise, talk about those controversial, genius or mad moments and something that i am bemused by, the recent articles that suggest something quite different to my perception of what's going on. Any experiences of meeting LH?

Brundle had to write a Lewis Hamilton article recently and in my tweets (which were probably ignored) I asked him to talk about LH the driver not LH the personality. It seems that you can't have one without the other.

So as a starter for ten, here is a fairly recent LH article. Posts should not be limited to this link but it can get some discussion going. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/formula_one/13755883.stm

The only banned topic as it is clearly ridiculous involves these four things "Glock" "2008" "Brazil" "conspiracy"

As far as I understand it the rule states lights to flag. So the lap to the grid, the parade lap and the warm down lap will not count in the 100k.

However I think its still the case that if the race has to be re-started then the parade lap becomes a lap of the Grand Prix so it will count then!

I think the rule will really come in to play on days when its a lot hotter than expected and we will see days when they are all preying for a safety car.

For some reason my spider-senses feel this rule is going to be very controversial. Certainly if Mr Hamilton is the first to fall foul of it and has a race victory taken away from him or something then I can imagine this place will go mental.

McLaren were just excessively stupid about it.
Why McLaren? Wasn't Hamilton the one who gave the interview ahead of going into the stewards office who he then told a story which differed from the one he told the reporters which led to an investigation?

The incident involving Hamilton and Webber in Singapore 2010 was a racing incident.
Hamilton as he turned into the corner had not cleared the entire length of Webbers car as he tried to pass him on the outside. As he then turned into the corner he gave Webber, who had partly driven over the curb, no room to manoeuvre, as he took the corner in a tight line. Webber did not have to back out ahead of going into the corner as there was a realistic chance of taking back the position. However once Webber had committed to the move and Hamilton to the tight line it was to late for Webber to back out.

The essential point is that Hamilton is criticised often for race ending brainfarts, which are small issues, but rarely criticised for the performance dips that are his major weakness and broadly responsible for his collisions.

Monza 2010 and Spa 2012 are examples of collisions caused by his being in the pack while his team-mate lead the race.

Deffo Webbers fault.

Plutus

Team Manager and Hamilton both lied. Hamilton stupid as gave post race interview contradicting what he said to stewards. Team Manager stupid for lying when there was easily obtainable radio transmissions and also instructing Lewis to lie having not listened to post race interview (duh). Lewis told by race engineer to give place back, bit stupid. All McLaren employees therefore McLaren = stupid.

Hamberg
Motorsport isn't road traffic if there is a chance to overtake a racing driver must use it. An opportunity was given. As previously said, Hamilton had not overtaken the full length of Webbers car and there would have been sufficient space for both to drivers to safely manoeuvre through the turn.
As I said it was a racing incident.

Disagree Plutus but as I did this topic to death several years ago and had sound reasons why I came to the conclusion (no Mephistopheles not because I'm a Hamilton fan :spank:) I, how can I say this politely, can't be arsed to discuss it again.

And yet none of them work for McLaren anymore! Therefore McLaren is not stupid! ;)

Were stupid?

Although some might argue the decision to bring in Perez, hire Sam Michael and have no team principal is a little stupid...

Indeed. Probably right as well, considering the potential for mechanical disaster this season. With testing having gone so well the worry that Murphy's Law will strike "in-season" must be lurking in the back of the mind.
