Current Aston Martin F1 Team (Formerly Racing Point F1)

The Aston Martin F1 Team, formerly known as Racing Point, formerly known as Force India, formerly known as Spyker F1, formerly known as Midland F1, formerly known as Jordan Grand Prix, is a formula 1 team based just outside the gates of the Silverstone race circuit in Northamptonshire, UK.

Despite the numerous name changes the team are still based in the very same factory created by Eddie Jordan decades ago.

The Aston Martin name returns to F1 as a team name for the first time since 1960. Aston Martin competed in six World Championship Grand Prix between 1959 and 1960 and scored no points. Team owner Lance Stroll will be hoping for more of a return on his investment this time.

Coming off the back of the 2020 season where the team, running as Racing Point, managed 3 podiums and a race victory, resulting in a 4th placed championship finish, hopes will be high for continued success.

The new era for Aston Martin commences with a driver line up of 4 time World Drivers Champion Sebastian Vettel who joins from Ferrari, and the Canadian Lance Stroll.

From what I understand, when Brawn was at Honda/Brawn, he didn't act as lead designer, but he did re-build the technical side of the team - because there were various issues, like a lack of calibration with the wind tunnel, and the car was being build in a way that was not "rigid" - there was lots of flex in the carbon fibre, so he rebuilt the team with that focus. I can't think of a team principal/lead designer in that way since Colin Chapman

just seen the adrian newey news. thats really shocked me because i never saw that coming. because i never thought he was the type to be Team Principal, or wanted the limelight. as he always seemed reluctant

Hmm, from what I have read Newey has an ego bigger than the sun. He left Williams as he couldn't accept that it was Frank's team, and Frank could do what he wanted with it. He left McLaren as Ron wouldn't bend to his demands. Red Bull pandered to him, but you have to presume he was after what he has now got at Aston Martin, a stake in the team and ultimate control as TP.

You only have to read article by the likes of Gordon Murray and Newey about how the McLaren technical department was a "shambles" when they took over and they were the only people who could have possibly made the team into winners, to understand the ego of these men. You're very good Adrian, your not omnipotent.

I hope we see him and Lawrence Stroll having a fist fight in the pit lane halfway through next season as Aston Martin crash and burn (metaphorically), that would be fun. My money's on Lawrence BTW.

FB i dont know what he's like behind closed doors but in most interview he rarely wants to be interviewed & even then he refuses to take the credit he should take for building incredible cars since the late 80s

i can believe he has a big ego. but then anyone as successful as him will have those tendencies & wont react well if questioned, as theyll just point to the successful record they have. whether thats vettel, max, lewis or Ross Brawn

you say Red bull pandered to him. but does that show that in F1. if you want to be successful. whatever newey wants newey gets. as at his time at red bull he delivered 3 of the greatest F1 cars since early 00s of schumacher 2011 2013 & 2023 red bull's. id argue that without newey Red bull are like Toyota, well funded underachievers

there's alot of pressure on newey. but if i know 1 thing about F1, is betting against Newey wont make you a rich man
