Football All things Football

The three forwards we played tonight, Wells, Cornick and Twine don't add up to the value of 1 of yours.

Until we cross that magic threshold and can access parachute payments to maintain 10 million pound strikers were always going to struggle.

We got thumped by the far better side to the point that this was embarrassing.

The sad thing is, we could well be playing you again in another seasons time and facing the same problems. Next season we'll have to contend with Ipswich, Leicester and Southampton already pretty much nailed on to finish in the top six leaving 3 spots for the rest of us to fight over.

We made some huge mistakes in January with our chairman telling the manager there were no funds to invest because he'd over spent in the summer. We also let two defenders go out on loan for some unfathomable reason.

We haven't kept a clean sheet since March 5th, have conceded for fun over there last few games and haven't won 3 games in a row all season. Finishing 6th made us the best of a bad bunch.

Good luck at Wembley. You'll probably be facing Sunderland which will be a tough tie for whoever wins. I can't say I'm not gutted to fail so badly but at the same time, had we by some miracle gone up we would have made Derby's 11 points look like Champions League qualification.

thank you for the luck at wembley, as i always say 100 yrs we are overdue.

i give huge credit to Bristol city i dont think you couldve done anymore. great 1st half on Thursday & you started very fast tonight as fully anticipated you would chucked everything at us the 1st 25 mins as you needed an early goal. but you just couldnt create a clear chance it was long shots. rob dickie moment of madness killed any of your hopes. once we got the opening goal on half time it was over

our team isnt the leeds standard of rich. because in august, we were still dealing with financial effect of 2023 when it was really was promotion or bust. & it was cobbled together team. we've bought well. cooper 2m burrows 2m, Moore, o hare & campbell all free. also sydie peck is glowing praise for our academy how they keep finding & producing gems. i think its probably about 8-10 players have come through

but I understand what you mean as parachute payments have helped kept anel, souza & hamer. yeah its a worry because PL have got issues because unless you spent way beyond your means & risk the future of the club you cant survive. will be cannon fodder

im unsure on Leicester or Southampton they seem in a big mess, 1 of them could do a luton or watford. Birmingham will be huge force next season as well. but if you can build on that team you never know

This highlights what I was saying last night and how far we over achieved to finish 6th. The top four highest value squads in the championship finished 1st to 4th.

Tougher than I thought it would be but as predicted, it's Sheffield United vs Sunderland at Wembley.
what an ending that was last kick of the game, great scenes i thought penalties were inevitable

the Sunderland that ended the season turned up last night, as they were outplayed for large periods & thinking this would be crazy if Sunderland won this on penalties & be going to wembley despite 6 defeats in their last 8

couldn't help but root for ange last night. he's honest & passionate. i love him as a character. it was interesting to hear ange's focus all year was on the cup competitions. "i know that league form has been unacceptable this year, but 3rd doesn't change this club, winning trophies will change this club, because they will be motivated to get this feeling again"

Ange has proven himself & im sure will get a big job after spurs, because as he says he is a serial winner & now he has proven it at everywhere he has been at. Australia club & country, scotland, Japan & now England

before i talk about the match it was amazing day, atmosphere was incredible at times. so special to be there. but it was just tainted by the cruel ending. i felt like if we are ever going to break the century old wembley curse. yesterday was the today as we had an attacking threat which we couldn't say in the last 3-4 finals.

we started so well. couldve lead in the 1st min. but brilliant save from the goal keeper. still gutted about the 2nd. like when united shouldve been 4-1 up on fulham but for VAR. that was an incredible moment for all utd fans. it was 1 of brilliant moments where i genuinely thought we had done it. after 100 years we were going to finally have our day. but then its ruled out for nitpicking again. trying to be perfect in a imperfect sport.

proof is that trying to be fair made it unfair as its not a level playing field anymore. we dont have VAR for 48 games. from early August to mid may & yet it used for the 49th. & in any of those 48 games we win that game comfortably. weirdly jimmy anderson the cricketer said it the best about not liking VAR. things do even out over the season. but you only remember the things that didnt go your way.

for me it was combination of poor decisions in the final third from kieffer moore, 3 or 4 brilliant saves from the Sunderland keeper & really bad luck. from VAR, Hamer & BBD injured, anel concussion

kieffer moore firstly he had a very poor 2nd half why he did not square to campbell for tap in for 2-0 is beyond me but that suicidal pass that cost us promotion deep in stoppage time is utterly unforgivable. for all errors we shouldve been in extra time its on a par with Gerrard costing Liverpool the title & i dont know how we or the players get past it. as saying yesterday how do you look a man in the eye. who just gift wrapped sunderland promotion on a plate in the last minute.

Console yourself with the thought that they should walk the league next year F1Brits_90
You say that but there are three big, well backed clubs with parachute payments coming down from the Prem and three strong, well backed clubs coming up from league one.

This year the championship has been as open for a top six finish as it's been for a long time. I know this because Bristol City weren't great and still ground out a top six finish.

Next season my outfit need a miracle for a top six finish.

Absolutely not surprised. He was told to make do in January and he'd have more funds this summer. Now apparently he's been told the budget for transfers is a bag of revels and a Subway gift voucher.

He's from Norwich with family links there.

Was odds on bookies favorite on Saturday but slipped back a little to evens.

He's had a taxi waiting outside the office ever since he joined us.

the 1 good thing about this. is southgate is about to get credit for the brilliant job he did

my big worry, is that we only have 1 more game v andorra. until the make or break game serbia away. as lose that & its likely playoffs real chance of missing the world cup in america again as we have been dreadful. the defence is shocking. senegal finding it so easy to get in behind is no surprise. considering andorra had a few chances to equalise

well then all change at bramall lane

There's rumors you're also after Brian Tinnion, our director of football.

As a result of those rumors there's currently a traffic jam in the Ashton Gate area of Bristol made up of fans desperate to be the one who gets to drive him up to Sheffield.

sounds like glowing endorsement & espically as last Bristol city manager will have moved 5 hours away from him LOL

I was torn on Wilder. On 1 hand, he deserves a 2nd year. He overachieved & led us to arguably the best 2nd tier season in our club's history 90 (92*) points, 28 wins. No United side has ever done that at this level before. & also he is the greatest sheffield united manager i have seen maybe will ever see

But im starting to think that board are correct as can't ignore our record against the 3 promoted sides: Played 7, Won 1, Lost 6. That’s worrying. I get why the board might be concerned that we lost 6 of our 7 games against "equal" opposition. But when you look at potential replacements, it's hard to get excited. Apart from maybe Steve Cooper, none of the names are that inspiring or a guaranteed upgrade like we thought jokanovic. Ruben selles is certain punt
