Grand Prix 2025 Spanish Grand Prix

Another weekend, another Grand Prix, and if you thought Monaco was dull, welcome to Barcelona! It's a standard race weekend, no sprint event.

Last year Max won, and then didn't win again until Brazil. I suspect he will, again, be the one pushing the two McLaren's closest at this race and as there is only the one mandate tyre stop, and cars can overtake, there will be no Williams Wagon Train this time out. For all us race fans it time to decide if you are "Team Norris" or "Team Piastri" as outside of these two, unless Red Bull bring some upgrades for Max, we are looking at a straight fight between the McLaren boys for the World Title.

If you are at a loose end this weekend F1.com still has some tickets available at the bargain price of €2,950 for all three days. If you only want to go for the race this will set you back €2,400. I presume there were cheaper tickets available earlier on and these are all that is left. A question for all of you, does Flavio Briatore still own the TV rights for the Spanish GP, or did he lose them when Liberty Media took over? Talking of Flav, here's Jonny Herbert saying what we are all thinking - Alpine boss Flavio Briatore ‘should not be back in F1’, says Johnny Herbert And here's some quotes from the man himself when Craig Slater had the brass neck to remind him that he's a proven cheat - Flavio Briatore’s "not broadcastable" response to F1 return critics revealed

Why can't some people take the hint and retire?

I'm struggling to be positive about this race, but the last time I was Mr Grumpy in one of these preambles we ended up with some half-decent entertainment. So rather than just witter on, here's the timings from F1.com, in the wrong order, as always.

ive got to sit on the fence because 1 the hand Norris is british my niece is a huge fan of his but then ive got £20 if piastri wins LOL

In theory I should be Team Norris because on his way up the ladder the Bristol City chairman apunked a few quid of his billions as part of his "Bristol Sport" empire backing Norris in junior formula.

It turned out to be quite prescient;

Bristol Sport CEO Andrew Billingham added: “It’s great that Lando has joined us at the start of our journey with Bristol Sport Racing. We want to inspire sport and sporting success in Bristol and beyond and I hope that we can help Lando achieve his dream of F1 success.

But......

I just think Landon lacks an edge to his driving. I think he second guesses himself at times and just doesn't quite have "it". He's more peak Button than peak Hamilton.

I'd have to say, while my head is team Norris my heart is Team Piastri who I simply think is a better, more dynamic driver.

Obviously Norris to silence the Verstappen lovers but he needs more steel or Bull dog about him

I like Piastri because he gets it when racing Verstappen but off course would have annoying Aussies telling everyone they are so.much better thsn Brits agsin

i would laugh my arse off. if red bull ferrari merc complaints to attempt to slow mclaren. have backfired & made them even more dominant. as the other 3 where more reliant on flexy wings

The biggest loser would be Red Bull because they have been the most vocal ever since they saw Mclaren had flexi wings

Strangely Williams seems to have gone backwards

The Colapinto experiment has floundered again

Maybe Red Bull should rotate between drivers for the 2nd car

i think Williams have overachieved the last few races. thats why it might look like it. as they shouldnt be contending for the podium

lawson will be very pleased, but just when you think the 2nd seat couldnt get any worse at red bull. tsunoda is last with a lap he thought was pretty good

seems a bit for harsh for a car failure, he was 11th until that moment

Yes harsh for Franco - I like the guy but the circumstances he's been thrown in is not helping - another one of Flav's driver screw jobs

Lawson has got a bit of confidence back and suddenly Yuki is under pressure - I don;t think he will be dropped because I can't imagine them recalling Perez or asking Bottas to help

norris being a tenth slower in Sector 2 & sector 3 than his 1st lap. he was pushing to hard & ended up going slower. im looking forward to tomorrow is this finally where we get the teammate battle we have been waiting all season for

i enjoyed Rosberg discussing the Lando "tow" because in fairness he is the expert in doing underhand things to your teammate during qualifying

I think if Verstappen is miles behind then this race is walk over for Mclaren . If the weather is hot the Red Bull may once again have tyre wear issues

Interesting I understand Alonso backing off but Leclerc did not bother another run

Suddenly Speshal Yuki is under pressure from the last few races where he is a small improvement on Lawson but that's it

If Red Bull can't work out what they are doing wrong with the No 2 driver then Horner better have good answers to explain money lost in the constructors championship
