This weekend sees the third event to take place on the Las Vegas strip circuit. This intro will be short as I can barely contain my contempt for what Las Vegas is, the way the event dumbs down the sport to a level I barely thought possible, and because it will be taking place in the middle of the bloody night because closing the roads at any times interferes with the primary reason Las Vegas exists, to cheat people out of their hard earned cash in the casinos.

What a joke F1 has become. And it's not funny anymore.

Please feel free to write something positive about this race.

i think its good circuit & a tricky circuit to drive. because theyve got control the car with monza downforce on a fast technical 1st part. weve had 2 decent races

also if we stopped racing in countries for moral reason we wouldnt have much of a calendar

i cant believe after such issues last season its not been fixed, it was almost dejavu from 2024, but thankfully nobody got hurt like sainz did.

just catching up on qualifying because 4am is far too early. but i dont know what is more shocking. Rain in the desert or that after nearly 15 years of waiting & being avoided at all costs. the full wet tyre was finally the preferred tyre in Q1

Brilliant qualifying. Norris was outstanding, he knew exactly how to get his tyres into the window & keep them there in this dark art of tyre management

I wonder if having 8 different manufacturers in Q3 is a record. Only Sauber & Haas missed out.

A lot can change in the race, but right now Piastri is projected to be 39 points behind Norris, & it feels like he’s starting to need a miracle to take it to Abu Dhabi. The only saving grace is how good oscar is at Qatar. Piastri isn’t helping himself either by reposting Bernie’s comments, doing everything except looking at himself. Maybe that’s the difference between the 2 teammates. It’s probably indicative of most sportsmen: looking to blame anything but themselves, trying to point to Monza or Singapore as explanations when he really needs to figure out why his form has dropped since Zandvoort. Has he got finishing line jitters

Also, it might be more show than race, but nowhere this season has shown how incredibly talented these drivers are. To have only 1 incident the whole session, despite it being so treacherous & that wasn’t really Albon’s fault is amazing. The final chicane at T14 was basically survival, not performance. So impressive

It’s really interesting that earlier in the season, Norris was being very self-critical, and he was being lambasted by the press and “fans” - yet this self reflection is probably what has transformed his season.

Piastri, on the other hand, seems to be blaming every failing on other people (at least if his reposting of Bernie’s comments are his true feelings). Yet, social media is just full of comments about how Piastri is being done dirty by the team.

I agree Oscar has had a battling collapse nuff said, Lando was called bottler and mentally weak but is more focused

Ferrari and Hamilton become a talking point again. Seriously Hamilton needs Bono the muck ups keep happening between him and Adami. I am at lost to explain

yeah it was thought of as defeatist. but you probally need to be realistic to be successful & i still believe someone gave norris a huge kick up the backside & some brutal home truths between singapore qualifying & singapore race. as he was in situation piastri was. hugely underachieving espically in baku

im assuming that piastris team havent done that & allowed piastri to continue this self pity. saying that the teams against him, that vicious cycle is helping no one & has accelerated the decline

I'm definitely someone who needs to order a slice of humble pie from the CTA staff canteen.

Lando seems to have conquered his confidence challenges and certainly in the second half of the season, has put Piastri in his shade.

Still not the greatest of starters on a Sunday afternoon he's making up for that on a Saturday.

I think Piastri has clearly been damaged by the inter team pressure between the two of them as the various incidents have shown. By the early hours of tomorrow morning, unless there's a disaster, it will be all but over.

A tiny bit in my defence I did say that I thought that peak Norris was better than peak Piastri but the performances from Norris through much of the early part of the season was far too inconsistent.

Also, a huge tip of the hat to McLaren who have managed to ride out some rough times and return to the top.

Looks like there will be a final roll of the dice, with the McLarens facing disqualification for an undersized skid block…. Precedent in these cases is that the car will be disqualified. The only precedent that I can think of which might allow the drivers to keep their points would be if they could demonstrate no performance advantage (see, for instance Brazil 1995), where the drivers kept their points, but the team(s) lost theirs. However, for a worn skid block, it’s most likely that there was a performance advantage (as running closer to the ground makes the car faster).

It does make me uncomfortable that only a small subset of cars have their plank measured each race. Given that it’s the most common reason for disqualification in the last 30 years, it should be one of the few things that is measured on all cars after the race!

shows how awful piastri title challenge has been zandvoort. that getting disqualified would be the best thing for his title challenge, as he'd be 6pts better off 😄

Lando's starts make me laugh. He should be doing better than this.
it was a weird turn 1. i cant remember a time, when so many drivers got surprised by the location of turn 1. Norris, lawson & bortoleto all hugely outbraking themselves. as they were expecting it to be a long run to 1st corner

Interestingly, the mcLarens had exactly the same measurements on their skid blocks - both cars had 0.12mm too much wear on RHS front and 0.05mm too much on rhs rear.

One thing that this indicates is that both cars are running more or less the same set up. Whilst it’s galling for the team to have both cars disqualified, hopefully this removes the suggestion that McLaren are favouring Norris!

(It should also be noted that this is the smallest breach that has led to a disqualification so far… Hamilton was thrown out for a 0.45mm breach in China).

The one thing that annoys me is that there is an inconsistency in how rules are applied. If the breach was found after qualifying, the cars would have been disqualified from qualifying, but allowed to race. If the breach is found after the race (even though it might have been present in qualifying), they are removed completely from the results, and get zero points.
