Grand Prix 2025 Chinese Grand Prix

We are underway in 2025, and the circus pops across the Philippine Sea to Shanghai for round 2 at the Shanghai International circuit. I say "popped", it's over a 10 hour flight which is the same as flying from London to Florida.

What did we learn in Melbourne? McLaren appear to have the fastest car and Norris and Piastri look very evenly matched. Max is out performing his car, whilst Liam Lawson appears to have been promoted beyond his capabilities, certainly at this stage of his career. Mercedes are certainly in the hunt for podium places, but will need things to go their way if they are to win races. Williams, , astonishingly, are also looking like they have a combinations of car and drivers which could make top 5, at least.

Ferrari have started the year as they mean to continue, with strategy calls which are mind boggling. Add to this the seemingly incessant need to coach their drivers, particularly "rookie" Lewis Hamilton, you expect that they are very much in for an uphill battle to win races, let alone threaten any of the Championships. Toro Rosso, or Racing Bulls, or RB, or whatever they are this year (can we not have just stuck with Minardi?) have a competitive car and, in Yuki Tsunoda, at least, a competitive driver. It's very hard to judge Hadjar given he didn't even make it round the parade lap.

Talking of things we learned, it would appear that when Dr Helmut Marko was reading the book on motivating young talent, and got to the about about using either carrot or the stick, he had his thumb of the word carrot. I think we all knew he is not a very subtle man, but his comments about young Isack were totally unnecessary.

Of the other teams, although Sauber and Aston Martin both scored points in Australia, they don't look very impressive. We appear to have a four way fight for the wooden spoon this year as Hass and Alpine also look very underwhelming.

One thing to note, in advance of this race, is that the FIA are "clamping down" on so called flexi wings and will introduce a new test in Shanghai. Perhaps it might have been a good idea to have shared this concern with the teams prior to the start of the season rather than when they are half way across the world from their factories where making design changes is a bit of a challenge. Ho hum, when have the FIA ever been consistent?

For those with Sky, its another journey in to the wee hours if you want to watch the one practice session the teams are allowed or the worthless sprint race. Otherwise it will be like getting up for work for many of us with a 7:00 a.m. kick off on Sunday. The weather forecast is for it to be dry, sunny, and warm. Perhaps Melbourne proved that dear old Bernie was right, we need to introduce sprinklers at random times during the race to spice up the action.

I think Piastri suffered last season from having to take the supporting role for Norris. It was the right call at the time because Piastri took more time to get to grips with the car in the first half of the season.

I think this year, he's on top of the car and will have the measure of Norris.
I will say this Piastri is a better out and out racer so I am keen to see him vs Verstappen. Norris looks like he needs everything perfect but when he does its usually at a higher level than Piastri

Okay for the race I don't see anything but a Mclaren 1-2. Verstappen I think will struggle if the Red Bull is hard on tyres

His teammate is under more pressure than Doohan!

Russell is the 1 Lap specialist but won't challenge the Mclarens race wise

Expect Ferrari to come through

Did following other cars look harder in the sprint

Is it me, or is George Russell duller than Mr Dull being dull on a dull day in Dullsville?
ill never forget his 1st day as an F1 driver, talking to the press & he was so heavily media trained he gave the same answer word for word, for both BBC & Sky.

watching teds notebook it was nice to see follow up we all wanted to see. of anthony hamilton. i assume telling hadjar how he knew he wouldve smashed it & come back stronger

i was thinking yesterday does max in his new contract have a driver veto. would explain why how they ended up with lawson when they couldve had sainz or lawson

Piastri got norris number today. he's never been able to get close. & whatever changes ferrari made to the car to try to combat the graining that everyone suffered in sprint race hasnt worked for Hamilton & has made his car worse

Good finish for Haas with Ocon and Ollie doing a strong job today.

Who would have thought that Sainz would be struggling as much as he is against Albon? A couple more points for Williams today.

We were denied a scrap at the end thanks to a soft brake pedal but I'd suggest Russell may have been able to do more in the last few laps to give Norris a fright.

not the best race, but pirelli are to blame for that they brought some terrible tyres for racing. but Oscar piastri, never in doubt, impressive drive & he's going to huge player in this title battle. & lando certainly knows now if he didnt before. i never understood why lando pushing to win. when he had been nowhere near Oscar all race.

very impressed with bearman today, drove excellently. even if haas have no idea where they are in pecking order, they were by far the worst team in Australia & in china they are 6th best

Whatever changes ferrari made from sprint to qualifying try to combat the graining that everyone suffered in sprint race hasnt worked & has made his ferrari worse. id argue they went from 1st to 4th best car

This might not be fascinating, but I certainly find it interesting that, after two races of F12025, McLaren have now achieved more points than across any single season when Fernando Alonso was driving for the team...

At some point, people have to start seeing through the propoganda that is Fernando Alonso.

Skid block too low - Hamilton

Car underweight - LeClerc and Ocon

After 2 races Williams are 4th in the championship equal on 17 points with Ferrari and ahead on count back.

Quick, someone take a picture. :D

N.B. Williams should be ahead of Ferrari if it wasn't for that dodgy appeal business in Australia.

There also does seem to be something shady going on….hamilton’s skid block was found to be undersized, even though his car wasn’t listed as one that was measured after the race. Also, why was Hamilton’s car not underweight? And why does Leclerc get to keep the points from the sprint race?

ferrari might as well have been leaving shanghai Saturday afternoon. because they had a brilliant car changed the set up & it went awful. went from 2nd best to 4th best car. judging by the sprint made the tyre problems even worse

If you changed the car from the sprint race which everyone would have then you can't say deduct those points as well .
