Grand Prix 2014 Russian Grand Prix Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

Greetings, Comrades!!!

Welcome to glorious nation of Russia for Russian Grand Prix, for Russian Grand Prix in former Soviet city of Sochi.

The former holiday-city for many famous Soviet dictators, the city of Sochi plays host to the first Russian Grand Prix, the circuit of which winds its way around the 2014 Winter Olympic Park. There were initially plans for a Soviet Grand Prix around the streets of Moscow, however the Hungarian Grand Prix was created instead. The allure of having a Grand Prix in the world's biggest nation was always seemingly irresistible, and so it has proved.

His Greatness Royal General Secretary King Vladimir will undoubtedly be at the race, and will see it as further proof of Russia's sporting and cultural prowess. Expect the vodka to be flowing and Russian troop hats to be worn!!!

In terms of the weather, it is in glorious former Soviet nation of Russia. In October. But Sochi should be nowhere near as harsh of other areas of Russia. Hopefully the weather shouldn't play too much of a part in this thrilling championship battle - actually, on second thoughts, it would be great if it could!!!

The circuit itself is long - as the race is 52 laps - a 'street' circuit (with runoffs) and there have been unfortunate comparisons to Valencia, but hopefully these fears will be unfounded, and turn 4 does look interesting - it will sure put a test to the right-hand tyres and the left-hand-side of the drivers' necks.

As the championship battle comes to a head, will Hamilton still lead after a race in Putin's fairground, will Rosberg reclaim his place at the top of the standings or will there be another case of a Mercedes car stalin?

Not disrespectful no, not running is a mark of respect.

Do the even have a spare car or one that could be (re)built within a week on their budget?

It's probably easier just to ship it and parts as planned. I guess the cost of diverting one car elsewhere may be not prove to be a cost saving?
Surprised they're not giving another driver a chance though. What's the threshold of races to miss in order to satisfy the sympathy limit, 2, 3 races? Sadly it's not looking like Jules is going to be racing any time soon so I think they have to be hard-hearted.

I think Rossi will be driving for the 3 remaining races of the season.
I think it would of been different for a top team fighting for the constructors.

Jenson is flying! Splendid to see him back up where he belongs (even if that colossal arse Horner doesn't think he'll stay there). Pretty close to the Mercs too...

From what I can tell watching at work with a 3 inch TV in the corner of my monitor, I think its pretty good, nice and wide, turn 3 is fun, we should get overtaking on the straight into 3.

Nice to see lots of fans turn up for a new event as well.

Hope we get a good race.

Not seen any of free practice but if the numbers being reported on the BBC website are to be believed this is looking like a one horse race, barring mechanical problems.

I am hoping for a pole shootout just as close as the GP2 was today.

Now thats close.

This is actually employed in a some low-level rental karting. Through the transponder, electronic limiters are activated in all of the karts under full-course yellows and on slowing down laps. I have only experienced this at one circuit in America and whilst it is frustrasting when sat behind the wheel, it is successful in stopping me from being a dangerous idiot when there are potentially hazards on the circuit.

I think this is a very satisfactory outcome.
