Newey Leaving Red Bull

I'm guessing that he's negotiated:
1. He will take his gardening leave now, but
2. During that time, he will design the hypercar for Red Bull, that is completely unrelated, and separated from F1 activities
Not sure if you read this but the US FTC made a statement a few days ago that banned non competes and by implication possibly gardening leave depending on the terms of that gardening leave. It would effectively ban gardening leave if it was considered damaging to someone’s career or which you could argue in this case.

It's official: Adrian Newey is leaving Red Bull at the beginning of 2025. It's a heavy defeat for team boss Christian Horner. And a success for Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton.

Was it a coincidence or malicious intent? As F1-Insider.com had already reported beforehand, Adrian Newey is parting ways with Red Bull. It's a bombshell in the Formula 1 scene. The mastermind of the premier class, the technician with the most world championship titles, is leaving the current world champion team and moving to the most important team in Formula 1 - where seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has just signed a contract.Yes, Newey's contract with Ferrari is not yet official, but the word is out in Formula 1 that the technical genius will be joining the Scuderia from Maranello.
As the Gazzetta dello Sport reports, Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur flew to London on Tuesday instead of Miami for the GP to make the deal perfect. It's a dream story for Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali, who also wanted to lure Newey to Italy as Ferrari team boss - but in vain at the time. It's also a dream story for the traditional team from Maranello, which has been chasing the world championship title in vain since 2008. But it's definitely not a dream story for Red Bull and its team boss Christian Horner.
Is that why the Brit took revenge on his former best friend with a little meanness? The press release was actually supposed to have been sent out on April 30th. Instead, Red Bull Racing published it on May 1st - the day the legendary Ayrton Senna died. Adrian Newey designed his Williams in 1994 and recently increasingly questioned whether the car he designed, which was so difficult to drive, was partly to blame for the death of the three-time world champion from Brazil. In any case, insider circles say that Newey did not want to tarnish the 30th anniversary of the death of the Formula 1 luminary with a disgraceful separation from his long-time team - nevertheless, it became official on Wednesday.
Leaving aside the small meanness: For Red Bull's team boss Christian Horner, it is a severe slap in the face and the first public departure since the team boss was accused of sexually harassing a female employee. The fact that in the midst of this turmoil the man who was partly responsible for the four world championship titles with Sebastian Vettel and the three championship trophies with Max Verstappen thanks to his brilliant racing cars is now leaving says a lot about guilt and innocence in the Horner case.

Since the death of Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz in autumn 2022, his quest for power within the team has taken on astonishing proportions, according to insiders' stories. It went so far that in an interview he belittled Newey's share in the success. This was particularly not well received by his wife Amanda, who commented on the corresponding post with "What nonsense".
