Technical 2014 Technical Regulations

Scarb's drawing differs considerably with this depiction, which Ferrari themselves included in the unveiling's press packet.

Something isn't adding up.

Rule clarifications and tweaks for 2014.
  • 5 second penalties can be taken immediately before a pitstop
  • Cars will no longer be permitted to stop immediately after the chequered flag to save fuel for a test sample.
  • 6 joker curfews for pit crews up from 2 last year.
  • Weight limit up to 691kg due to pirrellis heavier tyre
  • helmets for everyone during qually

Mephistopheles Say if you get given a 5 second penalty early in a race I presume you tell the FIA you're serving the penalty just before you change the tyres at the pit stop by simply allowing the car to sit there for the period of time, then once your 5 seconds is up you start changing the tyres.

Banning tyre warmers is stupid, they're a small cost and I doubt it will increase skill levels much to cope with it. Just more banning of technology, just what you want in F1...

There's a good article from Scarb's on the nose regulations and possible interpretations here: http://scarbsf1.com/blog1/2014/01/23/f1-2014-finger-noses/

It's interesting that a McLaren 2012 style nose could be legal:

Don't other racing series manage just fine without tyre warmers?

-------------------------

More to the point didn't F1 manage OK before tyre-warmers even existed in motor racing?

A ban on tyre-warmers would probably make very little difference anyway. As we saw last year with the introduction of infra-red TV cameras their benefit is so small as to be negligible.
The tyre loses temperature very quickly once the car exits the box and heats up again at the next heavy braking or fast curve section.
