20 Best Drivers- a survey...

I can't honestly comment on drivers I have never seen, so if they finished (or were finished) before 1980, they aren't on my list.

1. Senna
2. Vettel
3. Prost
4. Schumacher (version 1, pre 2006)
5. Mansell
6. Hakkinen
7= Alonso
7= Hamilton
9. Piquet Sr
10. Jones
11. Lauda
12. K Rosberg
13= D Hill
13= Button
15= G Villeneuve
15= J Villeneuve
17. Pironi
18. Arnoux
19. Montoya
20. Massa

If you are stuck, see Wikipedia's list of Formula One drivers and their career records. I had failed to appreciate how well Massa in particular has done (15 poles, 11 wins) and might have included Alesi but for the stat, 32 podiums, 1 win???:o

In the same way as the greatest part of others I will mention only F1 drivers:
1/2 Ayrton Senna

2 Stirling Moss - 4x runner-up, incredibly fair
3 Jackie Stewart - 3x champion, changed f1 forever (for the better)
4 Niki Lauda - 3x champion, twice after the horrible accident, showed incredible courage to come back
5 Prost -4x champion, personally I thought he was better than Senna
6 Senna - almost as good as Prost
7 M.Schumacher - 7x champion, great GP's (Hungary 98) but was helped ALOT by Ferrari
8 Ascari - led half the laps he raced

I think I've just blown a brain fuse or two trying to compile my list. It is hard to sort a list when you've only got old footage and reputation to go on for some drivers but at the same time I just don't see how you can miss out some great names who quite clearly rank among the best so..... for what it's worth.

1) Jim Clark
2) JM Fangio

-----------------------------------------------------

How can you have Senna on a par with Prost at number 5, and then put Nuvalori at 6?
Surely if you're going to put 2 drivers equal on the same position then you have to leave out the next position and go directly to number 7, or you end uo with one more driver than the list allows for?

Not that I'd want to come across as pedantc or anything. Of course.

I do that all the time :embarrassed:

Is it really fair to have two people in the joint position, let's say 5th now two guys are 5th, why should the next guy be 7th instead of 6th?

That's my logic...might not agree with me but I do tend to think in a strange way :thinking:

Auto list wouldn't let me take out a number, and I couldn't be bothered to rewrite every number manually.

I don't care what method is used but Mansell rated higher than Lauda and Stewart is wrong on every level.
