Grand Prix 2014 Bahrain Grand Prix Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

Unfortunately I don't have any text prepared (this was supposed to have been posted yesterday by someone else), nor the time to write anything up, so this will have to do.

What I would like to see is the drivers and the teams set the car up during practice and qualifying and then once the race starts they have to manage things such as braking and fuel consumption with their left and right feet. No changes to engine maps, brake balance and bias and all the other crap they can play with during the race. If the team get it wrong then they have to bring the car in reset all the things they want to change in the pits.

I'm not saying technology shouldn't be used but the way it is applied has to be limited.

A 'good' driver should be able to get in any car and drive the socks off it, until it either blows up or runs out of fuel

Oh, and night time racing is a stupid and pointless gimmick and drives me up the wall.

Huge respect to Mercedes. I'm sure they aren't totally happy with the aggressiveness of some of the moves, but if we are going to have a one horse race and least that horse has two different riders fighting for the title.

I think we can name that race "the race of no team orders". Well, except one that may be replayed a few times this season. "Daniel is faster than you Seb."

A good race, without the safety car it wouldn't have been anywhere near as exciting so let's all thank Pastor Maldonado! The fight between the Mercs was interesting but they are so much faster than anyone else it doesn't bode well for the rest of the season as Mercedes cruise round in 1-2 whether that be Hamilton or Rosberg in the lead.

I shall reserve judgement until we have had a few races of the European season. One swallow does not a summer make.

FB You think the safety car made the race exciting? Did you have your afternoon sleep during the rest of the racing? And what makes you think the Mercs were cruising. They went through turn 1 side by side more than they didn't in certain sections of the race.

And why are you now reserving judgement? That was exactly the point I was making that you couldn't judge after 2 races, but you were putting it down anyway. All we can say is this was a brilliant race.

Always wise to reserve judgement Lew_beauty. Europe is the true tester of car and driver.

We had a hint of the Merc true pace but we also saw how much the fuel saving has compromised the racing this year. I don't think we've seen a team over 2 seconds a lap quicker since the all conquering Williams in the early 90's. Even Ferrari in the Schumacher years didn't have an advantage like that and I think the Mercs could go faster still. Hamilton was on slower tyres and concentrating on keeping Rosberg behind. If they could both go flat out they could lap the field.

Jen exactly my point. In fact, why do we even need to decide. We get this every year where people are more interested in critically accessing the quality of the races than just enjoying the sport.

For the moment I'm happy to swap Red Bull dominance for Merc so long as they keep letting them race like that....
Definitely need others to get closer but I'm sure they will.

However its still refreshing to see Force India and Williams do so well.

Ferrari will be desperate but I can't see what they can do except hire Adrian Newey or start using Merc engines...could be a lot of bloodletting there at the end of the season if things don't pick up....

Australia was duller than Britain's got Talent, Malaysia worse than The Voice, Bahrain was good but the excitement was increased by a late safety car. Without that Hamilton would have not been challenged at all. Some how I think we will have more dull races this season than exciting ones.
