Current Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton MBE

A place to put all the posts from all the other threads primarily but love him or hate him, and even for the indifferent amongst us this is the place to discuss the marmite that is Lewis Hamilton, to learn a thing or two about his rise, talk about those controversial, genius or mad moments and something that i am bemused by, the recent articles that suggest something quite different to my perception of what's going on. Any experiences of meeting LH?

Brundle had to write a Lewis Hamilton article recently and in my tweets (which were probably ignored) I asked him to talk about LH the driver not LH the personality. It seems that you can't have one without the other.

So as a starter for ten, here is a fairly recent LH article. Posts should not be limited to this link but it can get some discussion going. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/formula_one/13755883.stm

The only banned topic as it is clearly ridiculous involves these four things "Glock" "2008" "Brazil" "conspiracy"

Surely 99% of all that has been written on this thread since it started is pure conjecture...

Yet for some reason the Anti-Hamilton brigade think they have a monopoly on the truth. The notion that Hamilton may have been hard done by in a certain situation is usually treated with a chorus of melodramatic calls for debate to be stifled and for anybody defending Hamilton to slink away with their tail between their legs.

Don't you dare ever assume that you know what I am thinking, nor accuse me of being anti-Hamilton.

To you there is no middle ground - you either love the guy or you hate him - strangely, I am quite indifferent and it would wonderful to be able to display that without being accused of all sorts of disingenuous nonsense.

You mention "the few people (myself included) that feel compelled to actually put in a good word for the guy once in a while" - if only that were true - there might only be a few but, Christ, do they bang on.

153 pages on the dedicated Hamilton thread
Another 6 pages on the 'seat at McLaren'
66 pages on the McLaren thread
91 on Button versus Hamilton
9 on should Button take a supporter role

and on and on ad infinitum

If I should appear "anti Hamilton", then I am sorry, but I suspect it is my exasperation and irritation at the inevitable deluge of partisan crap.

The extremes on either side of the Lewis Hamilton debate have their views, and both seem completely entrenched and intrasigent in their views. I do not believe that either of the extremes can claim the high ground, nor do I believe that one side outnumbers the other.

I think both sides can be as bad as the other, and it irks. There are enough points to debate, and there is a constant pattern of turning debate into argument, and taking self righteous indignation, believing that they have more right to be upset than anyone else.

Opinions are opinions, everyone has them. That does not make person A's opinion any more correct than person B's nor does person B have a right to ridicule person A for their opinions. yet here we are. Again.

It is not the opinions or the debate that I mind, it is the arguments, and the non acceptance of the opposing point of view, whether it is agreed with or not. It is both sides leaping on the high horse, and crying foul, then proceding to do what they are complaining at the others for doing, and being so unaware that this is the case, and carrying on the argument.

We are all grown ups are we not?

Unless I have missed something ( I have been away ) aren't we all missing a rather important point. Schumacher hasn't actually said he is retiring. At this point there is no spare seat at Mercedes. If Schumacher wants to keep racing, is Brawn really going to sack his bestest bud? I just can see Brawn forcing Schumacher out if he doesn't want to leave and that means Lewis has no choice but to stay at Mclaren and accept the lower wage offer because there is no where else to go.

McLaren might swap Rosberg for Hamilton if the numbers were right, I have seen it rumoured. This would give Brawn the option to retain Schumacher, though I think friendship also means being able to tell someone when their time has gone.

Galahad
I have said it already Mclaren rate Rosberg and in fact Nico turned down the drive because his dad said it was the lion's den potentially against Lewis especially as Lewis beat Nico in karts as teammates

A swap between Lewis and Nico is possible but Schumacher would not risk his reputation to being comprehensively trounced and would retire...he did that the first time when Ferrari had Raikkonen ready to be his teammate for 2007 I do not see it any different

Hamilton would severely test Mercedes loyalties and the whole of Germany that he is thrashing their greatest driver and favoured son and it would put serious questions into Schumacher being in the team which we all well know is based on marketing reasons

To put a different slant on things, a lot of people have criticised Hamilton for stepping straight into a race winning car and they point to other drivers who had to put the hard work in with other teams which weren't front runners before getting the chance to win races.

Surely those people should therefore be lauding Hamilton for considering switching to a team which is currently solidly mid field and with no guarantee at all that they will improve significantly over the next few seasons?

If he does go it will be a brave move and may, just may silence some of his detractors. Somehow I doubt it though.

Plent more quotes in the press in the UK and abroad with Hamilton saying there is no rush to do a deal and that it is McLaren at the moment.

Well Hamilton is one of the best in the grid at making a rubbish car look good, just look at 2009, he's probably second to Alonso in that department, if Lewis does go to Mercedes, we'd all expect their 2013 car to be more competitive than McLaren's 2009 car (relatively speaking of course) The W03 isn't actually a bad car, just look at how easily Rosberg won in China, but I think they got too caught up with the Double DRS and they are really poor on the tyres, a big handicap in modern F1
