A place to put all the posts from all the other threads primarily but love him or hate him, and even for the indifferent amongst us this is the place to discuss the marmite that is Lewis Hamilton, to learn a thing or two about his rise, talk about those controversial, genius or mad moments and something that i am bemused by, the recent articles that suggest something quite different to my perception of what's going on. Any experiences of meeting LH?

Brundle had to write a Lewis Hamilton article recently and in my tweets (which were probably ignored) I asked him to talk about LH the driver not LH the personality. It seems that you can't have one without the other.

I think the editor forgot to add the "?" to the end of the title...that's all...

Makes a compelling argument... as fans we don't really pay much attention to what happens off the track... sponsor commitments, image rights, etc... but these have huge financial consequences... in most cases for top drivers far in excess of their annual "salary" to wrestle their car around 20 tracks a season...
 
Interesting points in JA's article all though it shows how far away from the spirit of fire breathing cars and daring racers we have now gone when you read lines talking about Vodafone looking to back a driver withinn a team to open commercial opportunities with an entire continent.

I get the impression that the more people say something is likely to happen then the more likely it will happen. I've often posted on here that I think it would be the best thing for all concerned. A big issue instantly resolved would be the belief from some quarters that Hamilton is in some way being hampered by his own team for whatever reason.

I'd also be excited to see Hamilton's motivation refreshed by the challenge of starting afresh without the burdon of so many issues that he carrys with him at Mclaren. This year it's been great having 4 teams in the mix, next year could be even better with 5.
 
I actually thought Alonso's year in Renault post McLaren was one of his best seasons in terms of driving (okay so we know the type of support that makes Alonso happy) but if Hamilton is really that unsettled at McLaren he is still plenty young enough to do a season or two in a car that may not be competive for the title and then sign again for a top team.

Look how good Alonso is this season and he's what five years older and been around a long time now. And then you still have Webber and Button winning.

He's frustrated I think that he is seeing each year as another nail in the multiple WDC coffin but a bit of re focus in a smaller and what seems to be a closer knit team may be better long term. I'm coming around to the idea. Although I'm also coming around to the idea of him going to... one moment:sick:... Ferrari.
 
Ferrari is unlikely, I think, unless they offload Nando - and I don't think that is an option.

Hamilton needs to prove that he is totally focussed on the task in hand and Nando would rattle him too much next year. Although, the pairing could work again in a couple of years time perhaps?

Jen There is nothing in F1 that isn't negotiable. I personally don't see Alonso and Hamilton being paired again but if ever did Ferrari are the one team that could afford a substantial £££ increase for Fernando to keep him sweet about it.
 
The same article is on Planet F1. It is starting to look like Mercedes though many think he'd be better staying with McLaren. Sir Jackie pointed out McLarens commitment to the sport and went on to say although Mercedes are a wonderful company, if there were a downturn in the German economy the Mercedes board could make a 5 minute decision to withdraw from F1. I wonder where that would leave Hamilton. On the other hand if they didn't get the results quickly enough, even with Hamilton, that could be another reason to reevaluate their commitment to F1. McLaren on the other hand will continue in the top two or three regardless.
 
If I had Hamiltons talent and Mclaren were cutting my salary I would of signed for Mercedes already.
Merc have a huge budget and talent such as Brawn, given time they will come good. I recon world champions by 2014.

For me its a no brainer, Mclaren are taking the pee, the deal they are offering is an insult.

Plus Rosberg is his pal.

Ditch them Lewis.

You do realise that Hamilton's previous deal was signed at the height of the economic profligacy that led to the downfall of Western Economies? At that time, there was so much money floating around F1 that if the teams wanted, each of them could probably have developed their own nuclear arsenals for deployment mid-race!

However, times have changed, and teams can't afford such fees any more. Corporate sponsors have vanished, and the ability to pay astronomical salaries have also fallen. We don't know what the salary Hamilton is being offered (nor do we know what any other driver is being paid), but common sense dictates that in good times, you can negotiate high salaries. In bad times, you can't.
 
Well, I don't know what he was on before, and I don't know what he is being offered, but I believe that McLaren would pay what they believe is a good wage. If Mercedes are in a position to offer more, not sure who that reflects badly on, there may be many reasons why this situation has arisen, if it has, which of course it may well not have.

That said, the money is not important, right? It's about winning?
