Current Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton MBE

A place to put all the posts from all the other threads primarily but love him or hate him, and even for the indifferent amongst us this is the place to discuss the marmite that is Lewis Hamilton, to learn a thing or two about his rise, talk about those controversial, genius or mad moments and something that i am bemused by, the recent articles that suggest something quite different to my perception of what's going on. Any experiences of meeting LH?

Brundle had to write a Lewis Hamilton article recently and in my tweets (which were probably ignored) I asked him to talk about LH the driver not LH the personality. It seems that you can't have one without the other.

So as a starter for ten, here is a fairly recent LH article. Posts should not be limited to this link but it can get some discussion going. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/formula_one/13755883.stm

The only banned topic as it is clearly ridiculous involves these four things "Glock" "2008" "Brazil" "conspiracy"

Two different situations.

Anyway, it was two years ago, just feel there was more to it but the Red Bull situation hid it behind the covers.

More hiding behind the covers.........

IMO ...I Trulli believe that the whole Aust 09 debacle.was Mclarens fault
Lewis was told he had to give the place back.....by an uninformed team member over the radio....sounded like MW, but it was somebody who didn't know the rules.
Lewis said ..."but he has gone off the track".....when the team realised their mistake they tried to get the place back.....
So crucify the good guy.....
MW said he didn't know anything about what had gone on.........perhaps he wasn't there, RD was at the helm at the time.
Lewis wasn't being sneaky....his own words...he did what the team told him to do...
Lewis is always Team first......IMO the reason he didn't complain about, being wiped the wall with, in Canada..
Team points.....

Probably get the poster...."Christ, are we still talking about that?"
My reply.......Yes & he's been dead for 1978 years.

That you did - fair play to you. I still find it difficult to be persuaded that the incident you refer to is "well-documented" though, and to be honest I don't think we're ever going to agree on that one.

We don't have to agree, you have failed to invalidate my premise that Button changed his story, you said you didn't know that he did, you know now that he did as I have provided irrefutable evidence

So either you ignore my opinion (offer no further opposition) or you disprove it ( which you haven't been able to do) or attempt to introduce ridicule ( by posting pictures of cats for example)

And I don't see this as a silly argument, we all learnt something new

So if Hamilton changes his story it is because the team told him to...

BUT

When Button changes his story it is because he is conniving...

I imagine the team told Button what to say in Montreal.

Covers on again............................this was originally about Turkey 2010, Jenson was sneaky, (or conniving) going past Lewis, The point being LH was doing what the team asked him to do.....& JB took advantage of the situation.
Maybe hoping that when he'd got past, the team would say ....you will have to stay in the positions you are in now.....they were conserving fuel.
That was the sneaky or conniving move being talked about. If you go back a few posts you will see that 'The Pits' added the Aust 2009 Trulli/Mclaren debacle, & I added the wiping the wall at Canada where LH made no complaint.

I imagine the team told Button what to say in Montreal.

Button spoke the truth in Montreal, We have the radio edits, the team told both drivers to save fuel and gave both drivers identical laptime targets (Tim Goss confirmed this)
Button chased down Lewis, Lewis asked the team what was going on and if Button was on the same hymn sheet

Button stepped out the car and immediately tried to redeem his behaviour, only he knows why he told Lewis and the press that he hadn't been given a delta target and was therefore confused by his sudden ability to catch Lewis

If the team had forced Jenson to change his story then it wouldn't be to say they both got given identical deltas (effectively, stay-in-position team orders)

Dear God, will this ever end?

Life's not fair, it's always down to the other bloke and I did my best, m'lud.

Is there anyone here who has the ability to look forward and not backward? Tomorrow is another day, another set of cock ups and a whole NEW season - let's just see what pans out this year, please.

And in the meantime.......in the off season....you can muse or you can not muse, choice is yours.
I prefer to muse forward, rather than backward - whatever the season.

What is done is done and no amount of musing will change that - ergo, a pointless operation.

I think the point Jen was making (and she can correct me if I'm wrong) is that the deep "analysis" of events long past does get a little tiresome. Discussing what happened in the last race, or a few races ago is the whole point of the forum but to be looking back at events 2, 3, 4 or more years ago is pretty pointless nobodies opinion is likely to change no matter what "facts" or revisionist theories are presented.

That would make most topics on here pointless then since we mostly discuss what has happenned

There is a world of difference between reminiscing, as in the history of F1(without arbitary comment on whether it should have happened or not) and the endless debate on what 'should have been' a couple of years ago.

I mostly don't discuss anything that has happened in the past because I know I will be shot down in flames - emotions, perceptions and pictures I can do, facts elude me sometimes, perhaps because I look forward!

As to your assertion that ' that would make most topics on here pointless' - I think you may need to move on from the Hamilton thread and look at the other few thousand posted.

Well thats very true, but since the last race was ...a long time ago:bored:picking at old sores keeps some of us out of mischief .....but to muse forward.....and since this is the Hamilton thread....lets look forward to real racing, no politics,no interference from stewards, fair play from all concerned:thinking:Hmmm got a little carried away with the musing there.

Ps. I do look at other threads

Mark Webber in a great interview with James Allen for Radio 5 live has the fairest and most succinct take on Lewis' recent and present situation;
http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2012/...10-form-rbrs-challenge-and-his-take-on-lewis/

I guess a current driver is best qualified to attempt to put it in context. its most refreshing after the stuff that we have heard all through the closed season;

Webber also had some interesting views on one of the men most likely to challenge Red Bull this year, Lewis Hamilton, in wake of the Briton’s tumultuous 2011 – suggesting those kind of experiences weren’t unusual for a sportsman, particularly one with the McLaren man’s profile, and just had to be managed correctly.

Asked if he expected a reaction from Hamilton this year, Webber replied: “I don’t think that we’ll see too much of a change. There’s a lot of positives that Lewis did last year. He is still clearly gifted behind the wheel, we know that. Obviously some of his judgements here and there; he was involved in more incidents than he would have liked to have been involved in clearly, especially with Felipe – they were a magnet for each other.

i.e yes he had incidents but he was still basically doing the right things - no need to panic about his head

“…it’s normal for a sportsman and a sportswoman in their career they’re going to go through some head winds in his career. Particularly someone like him who’s had so much success so early, and he’s black and he’s got interest and he’s got a girlfriend of profile – so this is of interest to a lot of people.

he has more scrutiny (hes black) and so everything is magnified, but again no need to panic

“It needs managing and, again, it’s LH looking in the mirror and working out what is best for him. Let’s hope he’s strong but not too strong – as a competitor you hope that he can realise his potential, but clearly we still want to beat him.”

i.e one year hasn't changed the potential he has to be a WC again

Mark tells it how it is as usual

In a well written article in Autosport by Mark Hughes drivers skills are analysed, how they react to g-force, rotation and yaw. Apparantly its felt between the coccyx and the third vetebra.Ceccarelli(an expert in the field) says theres no where near enough study been done on this to optimise driver's performances.Lots in the article. Basically its why Vettel was so good at quali. its why hamilton is sensational around Monacco, Senna Donnington 83, Hamilton Silverstone08 Vettel Monza 08 and the reverse..the silky smooth driver ...Button China '10 Lots more, its a long article. Apparantly dealling with oversteer in the zones that induce it will give a less understeery car elsewhere and therefore more total grip over the lap. the great drivers Senna , Schumacher, Mansell (I'd add Vettel and Hamilton) all had the ability. BUT when it comes to setting up the McLaren i read this."Whenever their is a divergence of opinion on Friday, the team invariably follow Button's preference, probably secure in the knowledge that hamilton will be able to drive well regardless of the car's traits, whereas Button loses more of his performance if the car is not exactly as he needs it. Whoah!!!How to reward your most skillfull driver, give him a car that doesnt play to his skills in favour of a less versatile driver!!!:o

Well...there's a suprise

McLaren have a responsibility to see both of their cars finish as high as possible in an attempt to win the WCC. Button is (a) more experienced and (b) more responsive to set up changes; as a consequence of those two things it is reasonable to assume that his technical feedback is slightly better than Hamilton's.

But, it is justified in the situation. Hamilton always has driven around problems that he hardly perceives. By taking the Button set-up they ensure that they have two drivable cars on the grid, which is better than one, surely.

I frankly find it hard to believe that McLaren would set up both cars the same, expecially with two drivers having such different styles. The only time I WOULD believe it is if there were no prictice/quali sessions due to horrible weather etc. I have never heard of any team routinely setting up both cars the same.
