Well, in no particular order:

U2 - Where the streets have no name - Live, if you have not seen this song performed live, you do not know what you are missing.
Dire Straits - Telegraph Road
Jimi Hendrix- Killing floor - the live version that he played at Monterrey - what a way to start a concert
The Doors - LA Woman - one of the best driving songs ever?
AhA - I've been losing you - yes, seriously

Foxes - Let go for tonight
U2 - With or without you
Meat Loaf - I would do anything for love
Pink Floyd - Run Like Hell
Bon Jovi - Always - wifes fave
Guns N Roses - Sweet Child o mine
Ben E King - Stand by me
Duran Duran - Rio
Spandau Ballet - Through the barricades
Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge over troubled water
Paul Simon - Boy in the Bubble
U2 - Angel of Harlem

If I only had 20 songs to listen to for the rest of my life, I would be happy with these. There may be many which I have forgotten, but that alone says to me that these are the ones which hold the memories, mostly good!!

As much as I will enjoy reading peoples lists here, I could sadly never respond with my own.

I'm a classically trained violinist first and pianist (other spellings are available) second, the drummer in two very different and opposing bands - one all original and one all cover, sporadic engineer for various events during the festival season and I immerse myself in all things music at every opportunity. I'm a music junkie lol, but the above is in no way related to what keeps me fed and watered! Work/pleasure all that...

So, with that explanation out of the way, I could not even begin to assemble a favourites list, not even 20 favourite artists!

I can say with absolute certainty, however, that Goffin (RIP) and King are my favourite composers/writers and Led Zeppelin are the best 20th century artists to ever walk this earth.:)

Mine change from week to week depending on what mood I'm in but bands would be in no particular order.
  • Thin Lizzy
  • Dire Straits
  • Manic Street Preachers
  • The Verve
  • The Who
  • Eric Clapton
  • The Stranglers
  • Supertramp
  • The Rolling Stones
  • The BeeGees
And many others as long as they write and develop their own music not like todays canned hits that take no risk or just rehash other peoples work, total ****ing garbage...

20. House of Wax - Paul McCartney

And two guilty pleasures:

Honourable mentions to:
Foxes: Let's go for tonight
Stevie Wonder: Living for the city
Black Keys: Tighten Up
Arcade Fire: Wake Up, Keep the Car Running & Neighbourhood 1

A couple of points:
As you can probably tell from this list: I am a massive Springsteen nut; and also while there is great music to be found today, for truly great songs you have to look back. Unfortunately songs are only really popular today if they are safe. I can't see the nearly 10-minute long Jungleland selling well today!!

In an attempt to feel young again, I watched V festival on 5 HD tonight and it was shit. Hadn't heard of most of them and the music was simply poor (maybe even shit). I am starting to wonder if it's me. Am I an old fart and out of touch or do I just appreciate good music? I rather hope it is the later. I still love to find new tunes. I listen to 6 music every day and trawl you tube as well.

I just can't fathom how a whole field of thousands of people can be enjoying V festival when I am sitting here, in my living room, drinking on my own, ....... hang on...I might of just got it.

Aaannyway can we kick start this thread again. TUNES people. What are your Favorites???????
