Pole sitters who failed to start from Pole position

Suzuka was indeed run on aggregate but so was Imola, berger actually jumped in the lead at the re-start but was in reality a couple of seconds behind Schumacher even though he was leading on the road until he pitted and retired.

2007 Hungarian GP (Hungaroring) - Fernando Alonso - Incurred 5 place penalty during Qualifying
2012 Spanish GP (Catalunya) - Lewis Hamilton - Excluded from Qualifying for fuel irregularity
2012 Monaco GP (Monte-Carlo) - Michael Schumacher - Took 5 place Grid Penalty from Spain

None of these were the "pole-sitter". These are cases where the "fastest time in qualifying" did not lead to a pole position, and these are not classed in their stats as pole positions. The only way you become a pole sitter is by being published on the official FIA starting grid as first position. This was not true in any of the three cases above.

Not sure how we missed this one first time around. Schumacher at the 2006 Monaco GP. The infamous "parking" incident. After a bit of debate, he was sent to the back.

And yeah Artist, maybe we should just call the thread "Unusual circumstances arising from the end of Qualifying until the proper Grand Prix start"???
