It was a plot point in the film Gravity but it is a very real threat that scientists are concerned about where there is an unstoppable chain reaction of collisions. If one object smashes into another, the expanded debris field then takes out more objects and so on until swathes of satellites get wiped out.
Look at Starlink. Musk has launched over 10 thousand satellites and wants to put almost 35 thousand up there.
Fascinating to watch all the stuff flying about though. What I'm struggling to see are the geostationary satellites, like the Astra ones that broadcast Sky.
