Biggest fall from glory

Another comparatively big fall from glory goes to the Lotus 100T.

The previous seasons 99T took 2 wins, 1 pole and 3 fastest laps. Senna took a further 6 podium places with it as well. It also took Nakajima to 4 points finishes including a 4th place.

Going into the 88 season, with the new Type 100T, equipped with the same engines as the soon to be all conquering McLaren team and with triple world champion Nelson Piquet behind the wheel it was a different story. Marking the beginning of the end for the team.

Early in the season Piquet did record 2 3rd place finishes but then the car DNF'd 7 times and failed to score twice in the next 13 races. The season did end on a bit of a high note as Piquet scored the last podium finish ever recorded by Lotus with a 3rd place in Australia. Nakajima on other hand scored a single point at the first race of the season and 2 races later at Monaco became the first (and so far only) Honda powered car to fail to qualify for a race. A feet he achieved again later in the season.

Lotus scored 64 points in 87 and managed only 23 points in 88 (in 89 with the awful Judd engine they would manage only 15 points with the Mike Coughlan and Frank Dernie designed type 101).
