Storylines to Watch

Piastri vs Norris

  • With Norris recently forced into retirement in Zandvoort due to a mechanical failure, Piastri's championship lead has surged. Monza marks a pivotal moment: can Norris strike back on home soil, or will Piastri pull further ahead? (The Times, Reuters, autoevolution).

Ferrari's Homecoming Pressure

  • Hamilton's debut at Monza in Ferrari red comes with added drama—he’s carrying a five-place grid penalty for a yellow-flag infraction (The Guardian, Wikipedia).
  • Ferrari's morale is low after both Hamilton and Leclerc failed to finish at Zandvoort—Leclerc even collided with rival Kimi Antonelli (The Guardian).
  • Charles Leclerc remains the Tifosi’s hope—would a home victory offer redemption? (autoevolution).

Antonelli’s Home Race Redemption

  • Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli, Italy’s only F1 driver this season, is aiming to bounce back from his costly collision with Leclerc at Zandvoort. Despite the setback, Toto Wolff remains confident in his potential (Reuters, The Guardian, autoevolution, Wikipedia).

Verstappen and Red Bull

  • Verstappen returned to the podium in Zandvoort but faces a tougher challenge at Monza, a track where Red Bull traditionally underperforms (autoevolution).

Midfield Dynamics

  • Williams hopes to build on solid form and extend its lead over Aston Martin. Meanwhile, Racing Bulls—buoyed by Isack Hadjar's podium in the Netherlands—look to continue their surprise ascent (autoevolution).
  • Alpine's Franco Colapinto rides a wave of momentum, having secured his seat and looking to make an impact at a venue where he debuted a year ago (Last Word On Sports, autoevolution, Wikipedia).

Bit difficult for Norris to strike back if he's been forced into retirement! Isn't he a bit young to retire and I wonder what his pension is?

Hamilton's debut at Monza in Ferrari red
Ferrari red? Ferrari #@$&ing red!!!

I'm not a massive fan of the Scuderia but it was, is and always will be scarlet.

Your job is safe FB LOL

of course i would always rather be 34 pts clear than 34 behind. but is there a chance that, this could help Norris as can relax, its a long shot, & all the pressure is on piastri now because everyone expects him to win his 1st title with such an advantage with points & car

Pre Canada, Norris scored 2 wins and it can be argued that they both came when Piastri was not on his game.

Post a poor weekend for both of them in Canada and Piastri has been on the ball but Norris has been that much quicker. The mechanical failure really couldn't have come at a worse time for him.

Ferrari is the only team that managed to win a race last year but has yet to take a victory this season, and it will be interesting to see if they can change that at their home race this Sunday. I am also really curious whether we will finally see F1 break its all-time average lap speed record this weekend, given Monza’s incredible straight-line speed, and if the fuel drop late in the race helps close the gap even more. Off the track, the Fan Zone Monza Cento is full of activities like simulators, pit stop challenges, food markets and live DJ performances, and this guide has a great overview of everything happening for fans throughout the weekend. There will also be plenty of driver interviews, including Hamilton, Leclerc, Verstappen, Norris and rising stars like Antonelli and Bearman, which should make the atmosphere around the circuit just as special as the racing itself.

if it doesnt break 372kph record in mexico, they are saying it will next year getting towards 400kph

Williams are currently going well in FP2. Interested to see if they are still there at the end of the session.

Strange message over the radio from Charlie Clerk, who claimed he had "zero grip". Fascinated to know how the car stayed on the track in this situation.

i love them messages. "ive got zero braking" or "the car wont turn" it clearly does or you wouldn't have completed the lap

watching sky F1 & seeing the Schumacher lounge featured in a feature, some great memorabilia. but i did think it needed a few adjustments for factual accuracy

Williams flattered to deceive

Norris needed that lap to at least beat his teammate. if he had dropped into 7th. with Piastri 2nd. i fear it wouldve been game over.

but ridiculously close grid, albon 15th in Q1 4 tenths of 1st & being a quarter of a second of has you on the 4th row

surely if your the 2 mclaren it's like singapore 2017. you give verstappen a wide berth. if norris is out or gets major damage that requires at Lap 1 Pitstop. 52-59 pts is game over in the championship battle
