Grand Prix 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix

The Circus rolls on to Hungary this weekend, the final weekend of F1 action before the summer break, at the Hungaroring. intrestingly was just watching the 2013 Hungarian gp on Sky F1 last night. it was so long ago that Hamilton, Alonso, Hulkenburg, Perez were racing LOL

This race has real historical significance. It was a trailblazer: the first Formula 1 race behind the Iron Curtain, opening the door to Eastern Europe in the late 1980s, much like Bahrain did for the Middle East in 2004, or how Singapore redefined what a Grand Prix could be under floodlights in 2008. Bold, experimental moves that have since become key turning points in F1’s global journey.

which for reasons i never understood at the time. it is also the unofficial Finnish Grand prix, due to sheer amount of Finnish fans that would descend on Hungaroring supporting Hakkinen, Raikkonen & Bottas over the years. also has the reputation of where the drivers win their 1st race. whereas in F1 history Monaco actually has the record for most 1st time winners in the Sports History with 9. since Hungary joined in the late 80's no circuit has more.
Damon Hill in 1993,
Alonso in 2003
Button in 2006
Kovalainen 2008
Ocon 2021
Piastri last season
& Russell very nearly joining that list in 2022

it was the sight of funniest F1 start, we will likely ever see.

After the chaos and controversy at Spa on Sunday & with the debate still rumbling. the stewards & race directors will be thrilled to hear that more rain is forecast for Sunday. What could possibly go wrong?

The thought process by McLaren and Oscar Piastri to undercut Charles Leclerc, made no sense. He isn’t racing Ferrari, he his racing his teammate who was in fourth at the time. Play the percentages and cover off your only title challenger, and take the points. As we’ve seen in the end so many times this season, being in clear air at the front is king.

Both Ferrari drivers having a meltdown after the race. That team has problems.
leclerc berating his pitwall was hilarious. ive never heard a driver with such anger. understandable, but i dont know what they did to that car in that final stint. but if anyone if an expert of grabbing defeat from jaws of victory its ferrari

am i right in thinking from the times that in that final stint. leclerc lost 38 seconds to piastri & 14 seconds to alonso. in potentially 20 laps

it was a slow burner for 50 laps, but it got very good, what a brilliant battle between the mclarens

how weird that Lando terrible starts normally cost him, but today it was weirdly what won him the race, because he bit like Russell in spa last year. lando had to take the risky 1 stop because he had nothing to lose, he was likely going to finish 4th if tyres fell of a cliff & Leclerc / Piastri was always going to 2 stop because it was statistically 18 sec faster apparently. if McLaren are 1-2 into the 1st corner, i think Oscar probably wins it

i have a bit of sympathy with piastri, because before ferrari self sabotaged leclerc, they looked a threat

It was a chassis problem but he dropped like a stone

Just Ferrari being Ferrari.
They have a lot of soul searching

I don;t know if Hamilton hinted the internal politics in his comment or something so listen to his interview on Sky and tell me what you think

Verstappen is nearly 100 pts behind Piastri surely he is out of the picture now and in fact might get beaten by Russell

Anyone notice Lawson beat him

Apart from the Mclaren creating different strategies, the cue again is frustrating

There was something deeply unsatisfactory about Norris' win at the Hungaroring... If he and Piastri had been in different teams, it would have been seen as a strategical masterclass, but because they're in the same team, it feels a bit "fixed".. (I realise that it isn't!)

I also feel that we were robbed of a titanic battle at the end... I could just imagine Piastri trying to hang on with 50 lap old tyres at the end, whilst Norris, with 10 lap newer tyres (and not having had to deal with as heavy a fuel load) coming back at him at the end of the race.

Of course, the different strategies were all caused by Piastri trying to force Lando right onto the dirty stuff at the beginning of the race - had Piastri left the door open a little bit, they would have probably shuffled out with Leclerc from Piastri from Norris, and Piastri would have won the race!

They both had the option of the strategy but two stops was faster

Norris was forced into it by his position

Piastri was probably held up by the dirty air in Leclerc was prevented the true pace of the Mclaren unleashed and thought he could jump Leclerc and did not so compromised his race

I will say Lando probably caught the Hamilton , Hadjar and Antonelli battle at the right moment to get enough of a tow when it mattered

The problem I saw with this track is you can go 2 seconds a lap slower by being trapped behind a slower car

I only bothered to watch the highlights reel as I was out for the day. There were some very big jumps in the laps in being shown which made think that the race must have been pretty dire. Think I made the right choice to go on a ride on the Mail Rail train in London. Well worth a trip should you be looking for something else to do at the next Grand Prix weekend ;-)

The Artist..... i find it ridiculous. how ferrari dont have a fix for this plank issue. it was 4 months ago. & the fact he was losing 1.9 to piastri & 0.75 to alonso should be terrifying to them.

explains why hamilton had no race pace compared to leclerc
