Interestingly, their straight-up average result over those four seasons is Alonso, Vettel, Hamilton, Button.
 
Vettel made the mistake, but the pitwall made the mistake not to warn him 5-10 laps sooner. Vettel's first place was already gone by that mistake of the pitwall.
 
I'm surprised that drivers of the past ever managed without all these modern aids like the radio. They had to manage the race with sparse information which was a lap late anyway. With the length of Spa and the Nordshleife how on earth could they know when to speed up and when to slow down?
