If Ineos buys out the works team was the suggestion I believe - but that would depend on whether Ineos also buys the engine manufacturing arm, if they did then there would be no "Mercedes" engines, if not then it woudl be a case fo whoever stumps up the most cash for engines gets to be "works" - or whoever Mercedes deems to be the best opportunity for positive brand exposure - so Red Bull ;)

So your suggesting that Mercedes no longer becomes the works Mercedes team if the team principal leaves and joins Aston Martin even though the only connection to Mercedes at AM would be their former principal?

That doesn't make much sense.
It would make sense if they want to promote Aston Martin like Renault are with Alpine.

Toto says being Team Principal - the day to day work has been draining on him so it looks like he wants to scale back on Team Brackley in some capacity. Bear in mind Mercedes will be also supplying McLaren engines next season

Besides Otmar is at Racing Point so he can do the day to day work
Also Merc will be keen to win Formula E as well which Toto is involved in as well. He said he will stay at Merc but not sure what role so these Ineos rumours do carry some weight

But Aston Martin isn't connected to Mercedes Benz is it? It's owned entirely by Lawrence Stroll.

Alpine was bought by Renault and has been owned by them for almost 50 years.

Unless Mercedes Benz purchase Aston Martin they would have no interest in promoting a rival brand.

Besides, Mercedes have their own sports car brand in AMG that would make more sense promoting in F1 over a potential rival in the market, Aston Martin.

Toto Wolf may be Austrian however surely that is academic, Austria has always been almost Germany's left arm, not much different to those born in Kent or Sussex just a wobbly line drawn across a map. Ineos sponsors Mercedes, Ineos is owned buy a Brit who is domiciled in Switzerland, who knows what Mercedes Racing will end up as and the ownership of Aston Martin which used to be a more upper market Ferrari
:D

Mercedes own 5% of Aston Martin and all the parts are Mercedes Benz so Aston Martin F1 is essentially a Mercedes in disguise

Yet there isn't a single convincing reason why Mercedes would stop backing their own team and start pretending they are Aston Martin.

Do they see Racing Point as their equivalent of the growing Ferrari / Alfa relationship?? Almost certainly.

I don't think there's anything more to it than that.

It feels like they dont want a full factory effort where they are funding the whole team. Aston Martin will have some of Strolls money.

There has been a lot of speculation about Team Brackley. Toto's position within both teams will be interesting

I dont know if it will be a Ferrar to Alfa relationship because it would cost a lot of money to get rid of Perez and sign Vettel. If it was then Russell would have been shoehorned into the team

Things are getting bitter at Racing Point

Perez is effectively being isolated saying some team members are not sharing information with him anymore

Stroll will get the updates and not Perez for this weekend
