It would make sense if they want to promote Aston Martin like Renault are with Alpine. So your suggesting that Mercedes no longer becomes the works Mercedes team if the team principal leaves and joins Aston Martin even though the only connection to Mercedes at AM would be their former principal?
That doesn't make much sense.
Mercedes own 5% of Aston Martin and all the parts are Mercedes Benz so Aston Martin F1 is essentially a Mercedes in disguiseBut Aston Martin isn't connected to Mercedes Benz is it? It's owned entirely by Lawrence Stroll.
Alpine was bought by Renault and has been owned by them for almost 50 years.
Unless Mercedes Benz purchase Aston Martin they would have no interest in promoting a rival brand.
Besides, Mercedes have their own sports car brand in AMG that would make more sense promoting in F1 over a potential rival in the market, Aston Martin.
Yet there isn't a single convincing reason why Mercedes would stop backing their own team and start pretending they are Aston Martin.Mercedes own 5% of Aston Martin and all the parts are Mercedes Benz so Aston Martin F1 is essentially a Mercedes in disguise
