With the first(albeit, unofficial.... ;) ....) weekend of Spring upon us, time once again to pull the belts tight and glance at the racing calendar for the coming weekend......... One event stands out, however, on this weekend's calendar.............. ~~~American LeMans Series: 59th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, Sebring International Raceway(Sebring, Fla.---3.7 mile airport road circuit). For just about 6 decades now teams near and far have traveled to the former WWII-era airfield in central Florida in a test of man & machine. Past winners include: Stirling Moss, Mike Hawthorn, Juan Manuel Fangio, Dan Gurney, Phil Hill, Mario Andretti, Jacky Ickx, Vic Elford, Hurley Haywood, Brian Redman, Al Holbert, Bob Akin, A.J. Foyt, Bobby Rahal, Andy Wallace, Johnny O'Connell, Wayne Taylor and Tom Kristensen. The list of winning marques is equally impressive: Porsche, Audi, Ferrari, Chevrolet, Ford, BMW, Toyota, Cadillac, Jaguar, Peugeot and Maserati. Meanwhile, elsewhere in the motorsports world................ ~~~MotoGP: Rd.1--CommercialBank Qatar Grand Prix, Losail International Circuit, Doha, Qatar--3.375-mile road course ~~~Australian V8 Supercars: Rd.2--Clipsal 500, Adelaide Street Circuit, Adelaide, Australia--2.349 mile temporary street circuit) ~~~TransAm Series: Rd.1--Sebring International Raceway, Sebring, Fla. ~~~World Touring Car Championship: Rd.1[races 1-2], Race of Brazil--Autodromo Internacional de Curitiba, Curitiba, Brazil(2.296-mile road course) ~~~NASCAR Sprint Cup Series: Jeff Byrd 500 Presented By Food City, Bristol Motor Speedway, Bristol, Tenn.(0.533 mile high-banked concrete oval) ~~~NASCAR Nationwide Series: Scotts' Turf Builder 300, Bristol Motor Speedway As always, please check your local listings for exact times/dates and feel free to add anything that may have clipped the apex and not made it onto the weekend calendar.......... :) :goodday:
