Many years ago I was featured in the Yorkshire Post. At the time I was in the RAF in a town in Germany called Winterberg. As its name imploes there was plenty of snow, at winter weekends eager skiers from the Cologne and Dussedorf areas flooded in (global warming has put an end to that).

We just filled in a form and the RAF recruiters did the rest. like everyone else I was becoming a reasonable skier, that was actually a total lie, the only winter sports that i did were some sledging and taking my dog through fields where he struggled in the snow.

At the other end of the scale there were people whi went through the opposite end of the spectrum who featured in RAF Gan in the Addu Atoll at the bottom end of the Maldives. The place apparently was full of scuba divers mixing with the sharks and sailors who spent all their time in the fleet of dinghies. It wa a one year unaccompanied tour and was by no means as popular as it was given out to be.

I doubt that I inspired anyone to join the RAF.
