Gaming Any one recommend free photo edit software?

Cany any one recommend a free to download photo editing software? I've downloaded and tried Gimp before but didn't really get on with it. I'm after a fairly easy to use and straight forward system to tidy up pictures, sharpen them up, crop and edit etc, plus adding a few fancy special effects here and there.

So any one got any good ideas?

I used to use Irfanview a good few years ago until I got photoshop from the rear of a portable transport solution.

It was a decent program and it looks like it has been updated and is still free. hope this helps.
