Grand Prix 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix Practice, Qualifying and Race Discussion

Round 1 - Bahrain International Circuit, Sakhir

And so our long, long wait is over. Practice one is now complete and let's just say there are a few suprises in the mix.
Both HRT cars failed to set a time but at least they did get one car out on the the track to turn a wheel in anger.
It's no suprise to see all 6 of the new teams propping up the grid and I think it's a sight that we will be all too familiar with this season.

Here are the final P1 timings (un-official) (Source - Autosport)

Re: 2010 Bahrain GP Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

It was interesting listening to the BBC commentary about how fantastic and innovative the McLaren's rear wing is. Oblivious of the fact that the idea was just an evolution of a BMW Sauber reinvention of a very old concept that they actually raced with at Suzuka last year. Then to have Renault's Bob Bell ranting on about it clearly being outside the regulations and starting yet another arms race.

These guys haven't done any homework at all!

They are living in their own little bubbles and everything comes as a complete surprise. With the lessons learnt from the DDD Renault should have a solution already to go with the design mapped out and the kilns fired up. The spirit of the rules and ingnorance of the law just ain't gonna cut it any more.

Quit dreaming and get on the beam.

Re: 2010 Bahrain GP Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

It's good to see that the new limit on sets of tyres haven't affected the amount of time cars spend on track... not. :givemestrength:

Re: 2010 Bahrain GP Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

The new teams appear to lack even the smidgen of reliability needed to complete even an installation lap. :disappointed:

You'd have thought they'd be on track, doing lap after lap, if only to satisfy their sponsorship commitments. On the face of it Lotus have done rather well.

What's the situation with the bottom 3 cars? Why didn't they set a time/do many laps?

Chandok's car isn't ready yet. Senna was only doing installation laps. First run for HRT.

I'm not sure about di Grassi - maybe Virgin still have issues.

Re: 2010 Bahrain GP Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

no softer option used by anyone so far, so we will go a lot faster this afternoon.

HRT had their first going out, ever. haven't even tested the car. virgin looked rough, seemed like they were not sure of their car at all.

Re: 2010 Bahrain GP Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

Cars bottoming out turn six! New section extremely bumpy, in fact it looks more like the entry to turn 7 has a huge change of elevation! Someone sunk a mine shaft down there.

Very interesting that in the Mercedes battle, [bg=#CCCC00]Rosberg[/bg] is in front of [bg=#FF0000]Schumacher[/bg], that [bg=#000066]de la Rosa[/bg] has the beating of [bg=#FF0000]Kobayashi[/bg] at Sauber. But we shall see in Qualifying where the real power lies!

Re: 2010 Bahrain GP Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

Lewis, although quicker, appears to be wearing out his tyres whilst Jenson appears to be conserving his.

Felipe also appears to be winning the tyre conservation battle against Fernando. ;)

Re: 2010 Bahrain GP Practice, Qualifying & Race Discussion

This is about the only time I'm going to be rooting for Alonso :D

I'm not suprised by either one of those tbh

I was impressed with chandhok though when they got a few words with him and when he described the situation in HRT as character building

Is it just me or the HRT car has the ugliest livery this season?
I'm with you there.
It's very drab and uninspiring.

P.S. There are loads of new images in the Gallery :)

It's not going to be a problem, I suspect we won't see much of it this season.
