Poll What points system do you prefer

Following on from my Qualifying poll, here's one about the points systems used n F1 over the years. Time to decide which you like best, when deciding who are the world champions.

You should note that in some seasons drivers had to discard their lowest scoring races. For example, in 1964 Graham Hill scored 41 points compared to John Surtees 40, but had to drop the points from his 5th place in Belgium. I'm not sure if there are any other instance where this rule changed the final result.

I've gone for the top 6 with 10 ponts for the winner.

Getting a point in F1 was once seen as something of an achievement. The modern "lets send all the kids home with a certificate" is just boring.

While it would mean this sesaon, the bottom 4 teams would have scored 0, it wouldn't make any difference to their championship placings (on count back) or their prize money.

cider_and_toast, whilst I agree with you about the getting a point being an achievement, there were also many more opportunities for backmarker teams to gain a point in the 1980s and (early) 90s than there is today.

Teams often "lucked" into points when many other cars retired (which was a common occurrence back then). In 1991, the average number of finishers was 12 (even though there were 26 cars on the grid back then). If we had the reliability we currently have, almost every race would have had the points finishers made up of the Williams, McLaren, Ferrari and Benetton teams, with nothing scored by any of the others!
