Susie Wolff

Susie Wolff born 6 December 1982 in Oban is a British racing driver from Scotland. She has progressed through the ranks of motorsport, starting off in karting, then moving up to Formula Renault and Formula Three before moving to the DTM to compete for Mercedes-Benz since 2006. In 2012 she was signed by the Williams Formula One team to work as a development driver and she is still in that role.
She lives in Ermatingen, Switzerland with her husband Toto Wolff, since January 21, 2013, executive director of the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team. The two were married in October 2011.

Susie is aiming to be the first ever woman since 1976 and Lella Lombardi to race in F1.

She has her own TV program on Sunday 24.3.2013 BBC2 8pm : Driven: The Fastest Women in the World.

Her race record is none to impressive at zero wins, and you would have to say she would not deserve a drive based on that alone. However it is way beyond time that a woman driver should be in F1 and if Susie can open that door which has been closed since 1976 then I say good luck to her and I hope she gets a drive in a decent car.

If you're going to play the 'none of us could do it' card then yes of course she's not crap. However if your playing the relative to other drivers in Motorsport card then actually 'crap' is kind of mild.

Drivers such as Maldonado, Gutierrez and Roberto Merhi get referred to as crap or much worse stuff all the time and no one blinks an eyelid. However compared to Suzie Wolff their careers are towering giants. Wolff has never won anything at any level in motorsport and she's hardly scored a point in anything outside of Karting. I think I'm fairly justified in saying that in racing driver terms she is 'crap'. Completely crap. Like worse than Yamamoto crap.

I'm sure she's a very nice person though

If I was an F1 team owner with the choice to put in Jorda or Wolff for one race only, it would easily be Wolff. I suspect she's faster (based on junior records), she's more experienced with F1 cars, and is far less likely to be overwhelmed by the situation.

You means as in in terms of facing the choice of what woman you'd hire for an F1 drive?

Well I was a team owner with the choice of giving a drive to a woman I'd go for Michele Mouton. Even though she's a rally driver and about a hundred years old now, she'd probably still comfortably outpace the other two. :)

Would she be better now if she had been given the same opportunities as the young guys, when she was younger ? I know she's not up to the mark now, but being female she has always had to overcome that bit, before anyone got to her driving. It has to grind you down.
Young man.. How well does he drive.
Young woman. Oh, can she drive.
It's stereotyping from so far back it's almost part of our genetic makeup.

Let's just have an all female race in Formula 1 cars on the Friday of the races. The teams will get data, the girls will get experience, Bernie will surely get big promotional value out of it and who knows, maybe one of them will be moved to the big show on Sunday?
