Manor Motorsport

When F3 team Manor Motorsport were given a place on the F1 grid in 2010 they commissioned Wirth Research to build them a car. Brawn sponsor Virgin became title sponsor and Virgin Racing was born

Virgin Racing

With Cosworth engines, Xtrac gearboxes and drivers Timo Glock and Lucas di Grassi Virgin Racing embarked on their first F1 season. The VR01 chassis was the first ever F1 designed entirely using CFD, with designer Nick Wirth believing computer simulations were sufficient to not need expensive wind tunnel testing.

Inevitably the team had reliability issues early on and they also discovered the fuel tank on the car wasn't sufficiently large enough to allow the team to complete full race distance. Wirth Research got a dispensation from the FIA to homologate a new chassis and by Spain both cars finished the race.

The team regularly finished races but barely troubled the mid-field. By seasons end the team were placed 12th and last in the Constructors Championship based on a count back of minor placing’s having managed a highest finish of 14th.

2011

Russian carmaker Marussia have taken a controlling interest in the team for 2011 and Belgian Jerome d’Ambrosio replaces Lucas di Grassi. With the VR02 chassis Virgin will be hoping to move further up the grid in 2011.

Rumours are now firming up that Max Chilton has been signed as the second driver.

The team owner stated as much in a Russian interview last week. Just waiting for official confirmation.

Hmm. With Sutil gone (potentially reappearing) and Schumacher gone (any news on Glock?). Do we finally have more British drivers than Germans?

Nostradamus aka Eddie Jordon said back in Singapore that Chilton would be driving for Marussia next season and now he has stated that contracts have been signed and the deal done, even though there is no official word from the team.

So that's confirmed then Chilton is definitely an F1 driver next season...

He also said at the same race that Charles Pic would def be in F1 and that was right too so he's got a pretty good record.

Last predicition I heard him make was Senna at Caterham and I think that one will happen too as soon as Force India announce their line up.

I think people need to stop dissing Eddie Jordan who knows a few friends in the F1 paddock so is more closer than anyone on this forum

He was right about Schumacher ...he was right about Hamilton ...so it won;t be a surprise if Max Chilton is in F1

Mephistopheles if you see when Eddie broke the story Hamilton would join Mercedes.a few people thought he was talking absolute rubbish and being clueless... he's a lot closer to the F1 circle than anyone of us on here so if he says Max Chilton is getting a full time drive there is probably substance to his claims

His dad is very wealthy, and I didn't expect him to get as far as GP2 personally. But let's not write him off before he's had a single race; Kobayashi's junior record was also unspectacular.
