    Go! Go! Go!

No doubt, it was just the release of excitement in its most raw. Not the Allen scripted rubbish.

I don't mind Brundle's pre-prepared one liners and Legard's "We're underway" wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't repeated ad nauseum.

    Jonathon Legard: "And...WE ARE AWAY!!!!"

Murray's "Go Go Go" was legendary, but was overused, James Allen tried to copy his style, quite like the "Look but never stare" from Brundle.

The sound of those cars in the F1 2002 Monaco start is incredible...that to me always will be the noise of an F1 car :)

As much as I like Charlie Cox's Revs are up (yes, really!) I would have to go with GO! GO! GO!

I'm with Murray and the way he said it. From the heart. It may be because I'm old but I doubt it.:)

Can I request a "none of the above" option as I haven't enjoyed liked any of the commentators. Go Ben Edwards!

    "green means go!"

Leaving aside the factual inaccuracy, that would be my choice ;)

Don't like Brundles which is almost an anti climax. Allen and Walker were both better at this moment. Legard... Boring. None of the above? "and they're off!" Is good enough for a horse race...? Something new please?

I don't think Ben had a "catch phrase", that was part of what I enjoyed about his commentary. He used to shut up occasionally as well and just let you watch the race...

Great thread. Thought I'd throw a bunch of GP starts together by several different announcers and see if anybody likes these calls. And if somebody thinks they're really smart, have a go at listing all the different races and announcers.

There were so many jump starts back then!!
And is it me, or are American commentators so much worse than British ones?

And I don't even think the term "Jump Start" does justice to what we commonly saw in the mid to late 70's where it would be more accurate to say they made a "Rolling Start".

I believe they were quite lenient due to the fact that they would rather not have 3-4 cars stalling on the grid, because as you can see, there was usually at least one staller even with the lax regulations.

    "Action! Action! Schumacher leeeeeeeeads!"

I just love it the way Murray Walker says 'lead" he tends to extend it "leeeeeeeead" LOL

I'm suprised nobody built up a crescendo, that's my new style!
If I were to pair them up it would be:
    Murray and Martin
    Cox and Allen
and possibly Crofty and Legard on Radio
Lead commentator listed 1st analyst 2nd

I have to confess that, leaving Murray aside, my preferred way to appreciate the start, thanks to the BBC red button options, is switch to 'no commentary', crank up the volume and let the engines do the shouting.
