I saw something about this yesterday. They are the equivalent of a rev counter so allowed within the regulations.

Now that is a stretch. A beep is not a rev counter. A rev counter doesn't tell you the moment to change gear. A rev counter tells you the amount of revs you're having. A beep on the other hand tells you the exact moment to change gear.

If it's a driver aid if an engineer tells you at what moment to brake, then it is a driver aid if an instrument tells you when to change gear.

I agree with you Wombcat I know cars did include digital rev counters up to fairly recently, maybe it's something that will return for next year.
